In their backyard, ridges would be put up so Axell could practice his riding skills for at least half an hour but at most an hour a day.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to ride more or was unable to, but the canyon made echoes, and neighbors complained.
So he tried to keep it down even during his normal practice by adding spark arrestors in the pipes of his bike and not revving up too much like he would later in actual games.
In addition to riding bikes, he also partook in other sports that required both a finesse with balance and a heart for speed, such as surfing, snowboarding, and skateboarding.
Apparently, all this athleticism would eventually contribute to his unique racing style, as he drew inspiration from these earlier activities to create something nobody has done or seen before.

Axell first became a racer of some kind of fame when he won the Loretta Lynn’s Amateur Championship C Class, the world’s largest amateur competition in the field, at the age of 16, in 2012.
Since his championship, Axell went on to win second place for the 2015 Monster Energy Cup and started to compete in the X Games in 2016.
Although he was a newcomer to the game, he won a silver medal in his first year of competing in the Best Whip category.
Since then, his ranks would only keep rising. It was in the third year, 2018, that he won the first gold medal. Axell would continue to win two more gold medals, three more silvers, and two bronzes.
A driven young man, medals weren’t the only things he was after.
He wanted to break records.
Specifically, his most recent aspirations are Robbie Knievel’s (son of Evel Knievel, who also attempted to overcome the same challenge) record of jumping over 25 semi-trucks on the bike and Robbie Madison’s record for the longest jump ever attempted on a motorcycle—a whopping 378 feet and 9 inches.
For this record-breaking attempt, to be made on HISTORY’s “Evel Live 2,” a stunt special by Evel Knievel himself, Axell prepared feverishly.
Injury After Failed Jump
Unfortunately, during a practice jump, he injured his ankles severely.

While many could be imagined to be bitter about the lost opportunity and potentially, his career, Axell was grateful that it didn’t turn out worse than it did. ”I feel extremely grateful to have been able to get up from this crash,” Axell said at the time.
When asked about the prospects following the injury, Axell looked to his personal heroes such as Travis Pastrana for inspiration.
He ended the comment by stating that he was ready to make his own mark in the world of motocross. Clearly, an ankle injury wasn’t going to keep him out of commission for any longer than necessary.
Further, like many of today’s up-and-coming stars from all industries, Axell made good use of social media platforms to build over a million followers, establishing through YouTube his own unique brand of moto content.

At home, Axell has two older brothers who, together with their father, used to race dirt bikes when Axel was still little.
