What is Louie Giglio’s net worth? Is Louie Giglio married?
Introduction
Louie Giglio is the pastor of the Atlanta megachurch, Passion City Church, and the founder of the Passion Movement—a campaign that calls youth to use their lives to elevate the life and sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
Giglio is also an author who penned a United States bestseller, Don’t Give the Enemy a Seat at Your Table.
He’s written other popular Christian reads, too.
But what do we really know about the outgoing Atlanta native with a passion for Christ and the entrepreneurial vision to build a whole megachurch?
Let’s find out.
The Origin Story
Louie Giglio was born on June 30, 1958, in Atlanta, Georgia. Of Italian descent—hence the surname Giglio—he grew up in Smyrna, a small ATL suburb.
Louie’s parents are Louie F. Giglio, Jr. and Martha Giglio, and he has a sister named Gina—who is now Gina Shaw, a Health and Medicine writer.
Giglio attended Campbell High School before heading for Georgia State University in 1976.
After getting his degree from Georgia State, Giglio pursued his real passion when he moved to Fort Worth, Texas, to enroll at the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Here, he earned his Master of Theology.
Wife
Louie Giglio met and married Shelley in 1986, and the pair have gone on to create their ministry together. Shelley works as chief strategist and director of label operations for sixstepsrecords, as well as being the co-founder of the Passion Movement and women’s ministry, the Grove.
In 1995, while Giglio and his family were living in Waco, Texas, his father became ill.
The elder Giglio had struggled with his health for several years, so Louie and his wife planned to move home to Atlanta to help care for him.
Sadly, Louie’s father passed away after suffering a heart attack and brain infection before they could make the move.
The elder Giglio had suffered from poor health throughout his son’s childhood, and the family was in the middle of relocating from Waco, Texas, back to Atlanta in 1995
Building The Mission
When Giglio finished seminary, he and his new wife Shelley began building their weekly Bible study ministry.
Giglio, who was a former longtime member of North Point Community Church, had a calling—but no real plan.
He named his Bible study gathering Choice, and hosted it at Baylor University, where Giglio was doing his post graduate studies in the mid- 1980s.
Over the next few years, Giglio’s Bible study gathering grew exponentially—from several students in the beginning, to a few hundred, to 10% of the Baylor student body by 1989.
Louie’s intentions for a college ministry were set in his heart right then. But it wasn’t until a lightbulb moment aboard a flight from Texas to Georgia that the young missionary was truly inspired.
He had the idea to start a national gathering of college students.
His goal was to bring college students from all across the US together to share the word of Christ. This was the beginning of the Passion Conference.
Passion
The first ever Passion Conference debuted in Austin, Texas, in 1997. There were 2,000 university students in attendance that year.
From 1997 onwards, Giglio and his team—which had branched out from just his wife, Shelley, to a whole organization—hosted annual Passion gatherings around the US, and internationally.
Passion is geared toward the 18 to 25 year old crowd, and was created to guide the youth in their pursuit to live for God’s glory.
In 2022, over 50,000 students came together for Passion 2022 at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
The event was one of the biggest ever Jesus-focused collegiate events in the world.
In addition to their annual Passion Conferences, Louie and Shelley also operate Passion City Church, Passion Publishing, and sixsteprecords.
