Biography

He was born on May 6, 1943, in Tuskeegee, Alabama, USA, as William Samuel Winston.

In 1967, he graduated from Tuskegee Institute in Tuskegee, Alabama. After college, he served for 6 years as a fighter pilot in the US Air Force. Dr. Winston also served as a fighter pilot during the Vietnam War, where his achievements in aerial flight earned him the Squadron Top Gun Award, The Air Medal, and The Distinguished Flying Cross.

Later, Bill joined the IBM Corporation as a marketing representative. At some point, Dr. Winston was promoted to Regional Marketing Manager in IBM’s Midwest Region, where he was responsible for over $35 million in annual sales revenue. In 1985, he resigned from IBM.

”I had done quite well at the company. But God had other plans. I had a call on my life.” Bill went on to say: ”I knew God had called me into full-time ministry, but I did not have the strength, at first, to step out and leave my good-paying job at IBM.”

In 1988, Winston and his wife started a small ministry. In 1990, the name of the ministry was changed to ”Living Word Christian Center.”

In 1998, he purchased the Forest Park Plaza mall. According to the property records, the church has taken a $13.2 million mortgage on the property. The mall is located at 7600 West Roosevelt Road in Forest Park, Illinois. Also, it is the home of the Living Word Christian Center.

Also in 1998, Dr. Winston founded the Joseph Business School in the basement of the mall. JBS teaches people how to become business leaders and successful entrepreneurs.

Bill is also the founder of the Bible Training Center.

In 2013, Covenant Bank was closed by bank regulators. Winston acquired the bank in 2008 for $3 million with the help of congregation shareholders. He said for Christian Post:

”Over the last few years, we made every attempt to raise the additional money needed to meet the regulatory requirements for the bank.”
