After graduation, he became a professional soccer player and was involved in several youth programs, including those of Chelsea, Redbridge (where, as mentioned, Laurent’s father coached), and Wycombe Wanderers.

Laurent began his professional career with the soccer club Queens Park Rangers.

He played in the club’s Professional Development League 2 (a league specifically for players under 18) team and made 20 appearances in the 2012-2013 season.

He signed a contract with Queens Park Rangers at the start of the 2013-2014 season and continued with the club for a further two seasons.

Laurent was loaned out to Conference Premier team Braintree Town for a month during his time at Queens Park Rangers.

During his time there, he attracted praise from the manager, and opted to remain at the club for a further month.

Laurent left the club in January 2015, with his departure causing many to question the club’s commitment to its younger players.

The head of operations for the club at the time, Les Ferdinand, explained that previous management had encouraged Laurent to leave, and despite Ferdinand’s insistence that Laurent could make the A-team, Laurent ultimately decided to explore other options.

Laurent then moved to the West London club Brentford in 2015.

During his time there, he only made a single first-team appearance, failing to impress in a 4-0 defeat against Oxford United. He fared better in the Development Squad, where he scored 5 goals across 21 appearances. Laurent left the club in February 2016.

Laurent then moved around a number of other clubs over the next four-year period.

He next signed with the League Two club Hartlepool United, where he scored one goal across 33 appearances. In February 2017, he left the club and signed with Wigan Athletic, for whom he scored one goal in a single appearance. Laurent was then loaned out to Bury for the remainder of the 2017-2018 season.

Laurent’s prospects improved after a move to Shrewsbury Town, where he distinguished himself with an equalizer in an FA Cup game and a winning goal against future club Stoke City.

He then went on to play for Reading in 2020, and received their ‘Player of the Year’ award during his time there.

Laurent signed for Stoke City – against whom he had scored the winning goal four years prior – in June 2022.

He remains there at the time of writing.

In the summer of 2023, Laurent named captain for 23/24.
