Woodeson returned to England to attend boarding school and began performing at prep school and Marlborough College.

Later, he attended the University of Sussex and became involved in student drama productions.

While at university, Nicholas became involved in drama and theatre productions for the British National Student Drama Festival in 1970.

Nicholas then accepted an acting job at a theatrical repertory company.

A scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts followed.

He attended from 1972 to 1974.
