What is Owain Arthur’s net worth?
Owain Arthur is a Welsh actor who has a net worth of $1.5 million. He has gained mainstream attention in The National Theatre’s One Man, Two Guvnors—a role he scooped up after another beloved personality headed off to bigger roles.
Eventually, Owain headed off, too.
But where his One Man, Two Guvnors predecessor headed for the bright lights of Hollywood and his own late-night show, Owain Arthur headed for the fictional land of Khazad-dûm—dressed as one of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Dwarf princes.
Have we lost you yet?
Owain Arthur scored the role of a lifetime when he won the part of Prince Durin IV in Amazon Prime’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
The show, which cost the company $462 million for one season, is expected to be the biggest fantasy series to date.
So what do we know about Owain Arthur, one of the show’s Longbeard stars?
Read on to find out.
The Origin Story
Owain Arthur was born in Bangor, Wales, and raised in the nearby Rhiwlas.
He hailed from a closeknit family and spent a lot of time getting involved in school plays.
Owain dreamed of being an actor, and his parents enrolled him at Ysgol Glanaethwy to help him develop his passion.
Ysgol Glanaethwy, a drama school in Bangor, is most famous for its choir, but also offers acting classes for young kids after school.
Owain thrived, and when he had graduated from high school, he went to London to train at the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
Wife
In 2008, Owain proposed to his long-time love—and fellow actor—Mirain Haf. The pair would appear together in the Welsh children’s show Cei Bach. While the pair were engaged for a while, the relationship didn’t work out, and Mirain married Jack Poore in 2019.
The Career That Almost Wasn’t
Owain Arthur might be a household name for anyone who watches fantasy now—but he almost became a cab driver.
Despite roles in everything from Romeo and Juliet for the Royal Shakespeare Company, to Comedy of Errors at the Royal Exchange Theatre—and an extensive list of UK television credits, Arthur remained down to earth about his career.
He studied to become a London cab driver in the early 2000s, undertaking the rigorous The Knowledge training course.
Owain, who saw driving cabs as a career he could fall back on if acting didn’t work out, studied relentlessly.
The training would take him three years to complete, despite Owain noting that it would be easy enough to use a satellite navigation system instead.
Clearly, Arthur was ahead of his time, as all cabs and rideshare drivers use Google Maps these days.
But it was a different time, and Owain studied all 320 routes through central London to become a licensed taxi driver.
London’s Public Carriage Office, which regulates cab drivers in the city, requires all drivers to know up to 25,000 streets within six miles of Charing Cross.
Owain Arthur Once Understudied James Corden
Yes—the James Corden.
Now the ultra-famous star of his own late-night show—The Late, Late Show with James Corden—and one of YouTube’s most viewed celebrities, thanks to his Carpool Karaoke segment, James Corden used to be the star of a stage show called One Man, Two Guvnors.
When James stepped down, Owain stepped up to fill his sizeable role.
Audiences loved Owain—his comedic timing, his wit, and his charismatic personality.
He toured with the show throughout Asia, Australia, and New Zealand—as well as his home country.

It’s not all fun and games in Khazad-dûm
When Owain Arthur took on the role of Prince Durin IV in the latest Lord of the Rings series, he was excited.
Understandably so.
“It was like, “Yes! I get to wear prosthetics and a wig and a beard and wear all these glorious costumes!” Arthur explained at Comic-Con 2022. He then added, “I have to say I’ve been quite negative of it.”
It’s no wonder, when it takes Arthur hours every day to get into character. 2 hours, 16 beard attachments, and copious amounts of glue, to be precise.
Then there’s the makeup, but Arthur takes it all in stride.
As the crown prince of Khazad-dûm—son of King Durin III—Owain’s character oversees a thriving underground kingdom.
It is much different from the decimated Khazad-dûm at the end of the Fellowship of the Ring movie—and fans will need to stay tuned to the series to find out why.
