What is Markella Kavenagh’s net worth?

Introduction

When fans catch a glimpse of Markella Kavenagh out of her role as a Hobbit ancestor in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, it’s understandable that they’d be confused.

The glamourous Australian actress with impeccable makeup and perfectly styled hair looks nothing like her character in the epic fantasy series.

Where Nori Brandyfoot, her Harfoot character, is wild and unkempt, Markella is the opposite.

So, did she want to be a fantasy actor?

And where did she come from?

And why do people keep thinking she’s a decade older than she really is?

Read on to find out more about this up-and-coming actress.

The Origin Story

Markella Kavenagh—her name is pronounced Mark-ella, not Mirkayla—turned 22 the year she made her debut on Amazon Prime’s most expensive ever television series.

But if you Google her date of birth, many of the biography sites claim she was born in 1990.

With a pretty impressive list of supporting actor credits to her name, it might sound reasonable that the young starlet is in her 30s.

Markella confirmed her age in an Australian interview, laughing off the confusion her age causes and saying, “I was born in 2000.”

She also explained that she was only 18 when she took on her role in Romper Stomper in 2018—the same year she appeared in Foxtel’s Picnic at Hanging Rock.

Kavenagh stays tight-lipped about her personal life, preferring not to talk about her parents and family—but she’s happy to share a few tidbits about her life leading up to The Lord of the Rings.

A Rising Star

The actress, who was a theatre kid at Melbourne’s Wesley College, always knew she wanted to act.

She took time off school to take on both her 2018 roles—even showing up to school with her signature Romper Stomper undercut hairstyle.

The following year, while Markella was working in retail and racing across Australia for auditions, she scooped a part in the BBC’s drama The Cry.

Next came The True History of the Kelly Gang in 2019, which was directed by Justin Kurzel and based on the bestselling novel by Peter Carey.

The stylized version of outlaw Ned Kelly’s life was a hit for Kurzel, and saw Markella rub shoulders with Russell Crowe, Nicholas Hoult, and Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam.

The film had its Australian premiere on Australia Day of 2020.

Next came a role in The Gloaming in 2020, and an audition that would change this young aspiring actor’s life.

From Sportsgirl to Screen Superstar

While 19-year-old Markella was locking up at her job selling clothing for Australian fast fashion chain Sportsgirl, her agent called with an audition.

Initially, Kavanagh was skeptical.

At the most, she figured, she’d get to be in a room with this production team and maybe make some connections, but she didn’t see herself getting such a huge role.

Markella was wrong, and two weeks after her audition, she was signed to what would become Amazon Prime’s most expensive series of all time.

Markella plays Nori Brandyfoot in the series.

She is a harfoot—one of the hobbits ancient, nomadic ancestors.

Kavanagh describes her character as inquisitive and resolute, and one who pushes boundaries and challenges those around her.

It’s likely those characteristics that made Nori the one to discover the stranger who fell from the sky.

As Markella explains it, Nori—who is desperate for a good quest—helps the stranger reunite with his people.

Markella tries to stay committed to investing in her “real life” and in the people around her, so that she doesn’t get “stuck scrolling, stuck comparing.”
