Dave Sparks Net Worth – $3 million
What is Dave “Heavy D” Sparks’ net worth? Who is Dave Sparks’ wife?
Introduction
Dave Sparks is a big, bold personality most popularly known for his time on the Discovery Channel’s Diesel Brothers.
The show premiered at the start of 2016 and has gone on to grow a huge fan base amongst petrol-heads the world over.
Following a group of friends who work on vehicles in Utah, it catapulted some pretty low-key guys right into the spotlight.
And Dave Sparks was one of them.
Alongside David “Diesel Dave” Kiley—Sparks’ best friend and first-ever employee—fans have watched Sparks venture into the world of talk show interviews, podcasts, and 3-hour television specials.
But what do we know about Heavy D outside of the Diesel Brothers show?
Let’s find out.
The Origin Story
David Sparks was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on June 18, 1978.
Even as a little kid, his mom Lisa said people called him Heavy D. “He was a big baby, I guess.”
Growing up surrounded by “car people,” it made sense that Sparks would pick up that same passion.
He was fascinated with powerful vehicles and loved learning the ins and outs of what made a car run.
It was a fascination that took him straight from high school into a garage, working his first job at an ATV and motorcycle rental business in Utah.
He was employed by Rich Eggett, who would become the reality TV star’s mentor.
Eggett helped teach Sparks the foundations of building a quality custom engine—and Sparks’ imagination and fixation filled out the rest.
Through Eggett, Dave racked up thousands of hours of experience under the hood, and at the turn of the new millennium, he enrolled at Weber State University.
Initially, he studied welding, fabrication, and mechanics, but college life wasn’t for him—he didn’t return after the first semester.
Wife
In 2009, the charismatic car fanatic met Ashley Bennett.
Heavy D has said in interviews that—even in the very beginning—she was the girl of his dreams.
He wasted no time in putting a ring on it, and within a year, they had tied the knot.
The pair have three kids—Mack, Beau, and Charley.
A Change of Pace
After dropping out of Weber State, Sparks took a minor detour to go and work for his uncle in construction.
He launched his own excavation business—getting to stay connected to the big boys’ toys he loved—and building rock walls.
He also hired his first employee—his childhood best friend, Diesel Dave Kiley.
Legal Issues
The Diesel Brothers show provided a lot of opportunities for Heavy D, Keaton Hoskins, and Joshua Stuart.
It also provided a pretty major legal headache for the trio, after the Utah advocacy group, Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment, filed a civil suit against them in 2016.
The UPHE alleged that the group committed “repeated and ongoing violations of federal law” with their modified vehicles, creating 21 times more toxic pollution than a stock truck.
2 years later, courts issued an injunction to stop the Diesel Brothers from completing a specific type of modification, despite Sparks having worked with the EPA to ensure compliance to that point.
2020 saw more of the same, with the Diesel Brothers being hit with an almost $850,000 fine for hundreds of violations of the Clean Air Act.
They appealed later that year.
