”My mum was so supportive of everything I did,” David told Belfast Telegraph. He added: ”She used to stay up till two in the morning listening to my mixes on Pete Tong and tell me how great they were.”
”I think that when you’re a kid, you can’t explain why you love certain kinds of things; you just respond to the music,” Holmes said in another interview.
In 1992, he scored his first electronic hit, “De Niro,” with Lindsay Edwards and Ashley Beedle.
In the ’90s, Holmes began running a club called Sugar Sweet in Ulster University’s Belfast campus.

In 1995, David released his first solo album, ”This Film’s Crap, Let’s Slash the Seats.”
In 1997, he released ”Let’s Get Killed” via Go! Beat Records. The album was included in the book ”1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.”
In 1999, David recorded his third album titled – ”Bow Down to the Exit Sign.” The song “69 Police” features during the 2001 remake of ”Ocean’s Eleven.” The album includes collaborations with actor Sean Gullette, film score composer David Arnold, composer Jon Spencer, multi-instrumentalist Martina Topley-Bird, Scottish musician Bobby Gillespie, and novelist Carl Hancock Rux.
In 2002, Holmes released another album called – ”David Holmes presents The Free Association.”
In 2006, David, alongside Glenn Leyburn and Lisa Barros D’Sa, founded Canderblicks Films, a film production company.
In 2008, his fifth album, ”The Holy Pictures,” was released via Go! Beat. It was awarded to the best Irish album of the year.
