Meteorological Career
Dorsey got her start in network meteorological broadcasting at WBIR-TV out of Knoxville, TN.
She joined Atlanta News First in 2016 as a weekend meteorological correspondent, and continues her work there to this day.
Though Dorsey began her Atlanta News First career as a weekend meteorologist, she is now a morning fixture on the show; she can be seen every morning during the “Wake Up Atlanta” morning show, where she lets the citizens of the state capital know about the weather for the coming day.
Dorsey has stated that she loves that people “invite [her] inside their homes every morning,” but that her real passion “comes in the actual data – the forecasting.”
Citing her strong passion for mesoscale meteorology and climate change, Dorsey has expressed her wishes that she leaves her mark on the world of meteorology, and that she can “connect weather to the greater world.”
Controversy
In April 2019, Dorsey sparked a row during an evening newscast when it appeared that she compared a DR Congo park ranger to a gorilla.
During the segment, the news anchors discussed a viral selfie taken by one of the park rangers, in which two gorillas stood behind him.
Ella stated “you can see the similarities… between you and them,” in a comment many interpreted as implying similarities between the park ranger (a Black man) and the gorillas standing behind him.
Dorsey responded to the furor on Twitter, stating that she was actually referring to the posture of news anchor Thomas Roberts.
Viewers, however, remained unconvinced.

When not working at Atlanta News First, Dorsey is an avid sports fan.
When resident in Knoxville, TN, Dorsey was a frequent guest on sports radio talk shows, and she is a huge fan of both the Baltimore Ravens and Georgia Bulldogs.
Dorsey enjoys traveling when not forecasting the weather on TV or following her sporting passions.
She has traveled to such diverse places as Harder Kulm, Switzerland, and the Teotihuacan Pyramid ruins in Mexico.
