Biography
He was born on October 17, 1972, in St. Joseph, Missouri, as Marshall Bruce Mathers III.
He was raised by his mother, Deborah “Debbie” Nelson. In 1999, Nelson sued him for $10 million for defaming her in interviews and in songs like “My Mom.” and “Cleaning Out My Closet.”

She only received $1,600 after legal fees. Nelson passed away on December 2, 2024. She was 69.
His dad, Marshall Mathers Jr., abandoned the family shortly after Eminem was born.
At age 14, Eminem began rapping in clubs in Detroit.
At age 17, he dropped out of Lincoln High School.

On February 23, 1999, Eminem released his second album The Slim Shady LP via Interscope Records, WEB Entertainment, and Aftermath Entertainment. It debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200 chart and sold 1.76 million copies in its first week of release.
In late 1999, Em started his record label, Shady Records.
In 2000, Marshal released The Marshall Mathers LP. The album stayed atop of Billboard 200 for eight consecutive weeks. It features guest appearances from Xzibit, Snoop Dogg, and Dr. Dre.
