Introduction

Heavy Young Heathens is an American composition group made up of two brothers, Aron and Robert Marderosian.

The professional partnership between the two brothers began in Los Angeles, California, in 2008, when the pair began producing music.

Although the duo has been collaborating creatively for their entire lives, they are best known for their featured audio in various movies, television shows, video games, and commercials.

The public caught notice of the musical group because of their work on several seasons of the hit television show, Punk’d (2013-2015).

The Origin Story

The duo got their start as Heavy Young Heathens when they released their self-titled debut album on September 1, 2009.

The album propelled itself to the top of the charts at the time, with the single “Sha La La La La” charting at number 16 on Friday Morning Quarterback, a popular trade magazine known for covering the music industry.

In April 2010, the brothers released a second album, Make Room for The Youth, which made its way on Friday Morning Quarterback and Mediaguide Radio charts.

The Marderosians are best known for their use of bass and drum in audio, creating a recognizable sound that is sought after by many big brands and producers.

Movies

For their professional discography and activity in the movie industry, Heavy Young Heathens is known for their work on a number of successful tracks.

Among many, the most popular films that adopted music from the duo include Reversal of Fortune (2020), Halloween (2018), Low Low (2018), Mother’s Day (2016), and Masterminds (2016).

The brothers are also known for their work on film trailers, including Angry Birds 2 (2018), Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017), The Magnificent Seven (2016), Deadpool (2016), Antman (2015), Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013), The Amazing Spiderman (2012), The Expendables 2 (2012), and Footloose (2011).

The American alternative indie rock duo has seen great success in composing music for box office hits and has made a name for themselves as composers, and artists, in the film industry.

The duo has also seen accomplishments from writing, composing, and performing music on behalf of well-known television series.

A few of their most renowned work on television includes music created for The Simpsons, Criminal Minds, Jersey Shore, Shameless, The Mindy Project, Dead to Me, Teen Wolf, Punk’d, Ridiculousness, 16 and Pregnant, Eastbound and Down, 90210, and Wahlburgers.

Heavy Young Heathens was also asked to co-compose and perform the theme song for the hit television series, Lucifer.

Their television discography does not end with trailers and series, as the Heavy Young Heathens have also featured their work in a number of well-known brand commercials.

The pair have worked with large companies on their product promotions, including commercials for corporations such as Monster Energy, Red Bull, Vans, Adidas, GoPro, Bacardi, Ford, Dodge, Starbucks, and Fiat.

Lawsuit

It is no coincidence that Heavy Young Heathens has worked with some of the largest household brand names on the market, as their talent and experience speak to the quality of work they produce.

With such a popular presence, the music duo had even faced instances in their career when their music was taken without permission.

On February 24, 2022, Heavy Young Heathens filed a lawsuit against US Olympic silver medal-winning figure skaters, Brandon Frazier and Alexa Knierim.

Knierim and Frazier used Heavy Young Heathens’ version of “House of the Rising Sun” during their performance without the artists’ permission.

The song was originally used in a trailer for the hit film, The Magnificent Seven, in 2016. The brothers are represented by their father, Mick Marderosian.

The duo also accused NBC of copyright infringement because they aired the music without exclusive rights to do so.

Heavy Young Heathens considers this song a very valuable asset and feels that the unauthorized use of it has insulted the integrity of their reputation as artists.

The brothers have also accused Warner Brothers, Discovery Inc, and Fox Sports of using their music without any agreements or permission.
