If you’re familiar with televised sports in the US—from ESPN to SNY—you’ve probably heard about Jessie Coffield before.

The vivacious sports journalist with the quick wit, hilarious banter, and the crazy high energy levels is also the face of one of the biggest sportsbooks in the world.

Star of The Sweat on DraftKings, Jessie calls herself a sideline reporter and sports anchor.

The quick witted blonde from Virginia has won hearts—and fans—all over the US for her sporting knowledge, girl next door charm, and charismatic personality.

But what do we know about the young up and coming sports journalist’s background?

Here’s what we found out.

The Origin Story

Jessie Coffield was born on December 15, 1990, in Alexandria, Virginia.

She is one of three kids—she has a brother named William and a sister named Virginia—and her parents are William and Kristen Coffield.

As a kid, Jessie’s parents enrolled her, William, and Virginia at St. Stephens and St. Agnes School—a college prep Episcopal church school that takes kids all the way from age 3 to 18.

Jessie graduated from high school in 2009, and headed for Boston College.

She graduated from college in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in communication, and went on to study sports journalism.

Jessie showed a love of sports early in life—she played hockey and lacrosse right through high school and college, captaining the women’s lacrosse team at Boston College in 2012 and 2013.

Coffield’s love of sport started way before high school, though: she even played PeeWee soccer and Little League baseball from the time she was 5 years old.

Falling in Love with Sports

Growing up in Alexandria, Virginia, Jessie’s family said there were a couple of things that really stood out about the diminutive child.

Not only was she tiny, she was tough and athletically “gifted”.

Bill—Jessie’s dad, William—reminisces that his daughter was an itty bitty kid. “My sister [jokes] that Jessie was the smallest human being she ever saw that could walk and talk.”

But as small as she was, Jessie had fire.

Her parents signed her up for PeeWee soccer at 5 years old after she hounded them at all her brother’s games.

When the rest of the kids were piling on top of them in a typical game of swarm ball, Jessie would be the one to break the line and actually score a goal.

When PeeWee soccer was on standby, Coffield was enrolled in a boys’ Little League team.

She didn’t mind—in fact, she was good at it. She became the leadoff hitter—she was fast, agile, and had a good eye for the ball.

She also had cunning, and would lean into pitches to get hit and get onto first base.

Coffield was always going places—ask any of her friends, family, and college teammates.

As a former DI lacrosse player, she always showed that competitive drive to get ahead.

But her years at college had been spent training and playing—she’d had no time to build her experience in another passion project: sports journalism.

So, when she graduated, she needed experience. She sent “countless emails and met for zillions of coffees.”

Coffield was thankful for the advice she was given—but there wasn’t a single job offer.

Coffield remembers networking “her butt off” after graduation, and eventually got an offer she couldn’t refuse: an on-camera internship for the CBT Network in Georgia.

While she worked as the face of Car Biz Today, she fired off reels to all the executives she’d met with that summer—and finally, she had a bite.

The MLS New England Revolution soccer team offered Coffield a sideline reporter gig.

It was part-time, but it led to video segments on the team’s website, work on the Lax Sports Network, and eventually—a return to Boston.

In 2018, Jessie got her biggest offer yet—to host a Daily Fantasy Sports show called The Sweat. The DraftKings’ show launched the sportsbook’s digital reach, and Jessie’s digital presence, in equal measure.
