The Origin Story
Mavrik Joos was born on December 16th, 1995, in Wayzata, Minnesota.
His parents are Sherryl Joos, an ocular surface account executive, and Greg Joos (whose profession has not been made public knowledge).
Joos attended Wayzata High School, from which he graduated in 2014.
He then went on to attend the University of Minnesota Duluth, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in marketing in 2018.
Professional Life
Prior to graduation, Joos held a number of part-time positions to supplement his income.
He worked variously as a content provider, a videographer, a graphic design intern, a crew supervisor, and a web designer.
This motley collection of odd jobs informed Joos’ later direction as a YouTuber, and taught him many valuable lessons about video editing and graphic design.
Upon graduation from university, Joos founded his own company, Frostbite Custom.
He continued with the company until 2019, after which point he decided to focus full-time on his YouTube career.

This inspired Joos to later create his own YouTube channel.
In 2007, Mavrik created his first YouTube channel.
Going under the name ‘maviccjoos’, the young Joos primarily published skateboarding and fingerboarding videos to the popular video-hosting service.
As he was still a child at that time, Joos was not trying to monetize his channel, and uploaded videos purely for his own entertainment.
Consequently, the channel enjoyed only moderate success, garnering around 1,200 subscribers. Joos later abandoned the channel in favor of another one.
Second Channel
His second YouTube channel, simply entitled ‘Mav,’ was much more successful than the first.
Taking advantage of the new trend for ‘nomad travel’ videos, Mav began to document his adventures traveling across the US in an old van.
His videos deal with the trials and tribulations of surviving on the road, and document such things as camping rough, catching and cooking your own food, and surviving harsh Alaskan winters.
Wife/Girlfriend
Joos was in a long-distance relationship during his university years. However, his then-girlfriend cheated on him. This ended up being a catalyst for Joos to start his camping adventures, which led to the creation of his more successful YouTube channel.
Mavrik enjoys an on-again, off-again relationship with another travel YouTuber, Hannah Lee Duggan. The two are reportedly very close, with both featuring in the YouTube videos of the other with some frequency. It is unknown whether or not the two are currently together.
