Des Bishop is an American-Irish comedian and podcaster who has a net worth of $2 million. He gained fame in 2004 for the TV series “The Des Bishop Work Experience.”

He was born on November 12, 1975, in London, England, as Desmond Ryan Bishop.

His mother, Eileen Bishop, was born in 1940 in Manhattan.

Desmond grew up in New York City.

At age 14, we moved from NY to Ireland and went to boarding school in Wexford, Ireland.

The reason Bishop was sent to boarding school in Ireland was that he had an issue with drinking.

“I got kicked out of school in New York, and why I got kicked out of school was for 14-year old had a serious problem with alcohol, so my mother came up with this ingenious idea to send me to Ireland to go to boarding school,” Bishop told George Stroumboulopoulos in 2014.

He added: “I guess I was an alcoholic, so they might as well send me to the place where I’d become the best alcoholic I could possibly be.”

Desmond has not had an alcoholic beverage since he was 19.

“My parents drilled it into my head that I was just never going to have a good outcome from alcohol,” he said. 

First Gig

Bishop’s first gig was a 20-minute slot in Gorbies comedy club in Cork. 

He later became a regular on Irish television.

In 2000, Des was diagnosed with testicular cancer.

In 2004, The Des Bishop Work Experience was screened on RTÉ Two.

In 2008, Bishop released the TV show — “In the Name of the Fada.”

His father, Michael Bishop, passed away in 2011. He was diagnosed with lung cancer in November 2009.

Michael Bishop inspired Desmond’s national tour — “My Dad was Nearly James Bond.” Des said in a statement that his father was very close to getting the role of James Bond.

In 2014, Bishop spent a year living in China learning Mandarin due to the fact he had “a childhood obsession with kung fu movies.” The result is “Made in China,” a stand-up show in English.

In 2016, Des appeared in two TV series documentaries – “Gotham Comedy Live” and “Articulate with Jim Cotter.”

Dancing with the Stars

In 2017, Des took part in the first series of the Irish version of “Dancing with the Stars.”

He finished in eighth place.

“I would have liked to have gone further,” Bishop said. “The public vote is such an odd thing.”

In March 2019, his mother passed away.

“I think it’s tougher to lose your mum,” Des Bishop wrote on his blog. “My Dad was the best supporting actor.”

Des has a stand-up show, “Mia Mamma,” in which he details grief and learning to cope with the death of his mom.

“I had to do a show with my mother because I don’t believe in heaven, but just in case there is a heaven, I had to do a show because it would be the first thing she’d bring up that my dad got one, and she didn’t get one,” Desmond said in an interview on RTE in early 2022.

In 2020, Des began dating Hannah Berner after he reached out to her on Instagram.

Note – Berner played competitive tennis for the University of Wisconsin and appeared in Bravo’s Summer House (Bishop also appeared in 7 episodes of Summer House).

She also performs standup and has two podcasts – Berning in Hell and Giggly Squad.

“I really just fell in love with how his mind works,” Hannah said.

In the fall of 2020, Bishop and Berner moved in together.

“I was fairly certain fairly quickly that Hannah was the one for me,” Bishop revealed.

In 2021, the two got engaged. Des popped the question that Valentine’s Day with an 18-carat yellow gold band.

In May 2022, Des Bishop married Hannah Berner on a beach in the Hamptons.

They married on Friday the 13th.
