Raja Gemini (real name: Sutan Ibrahim Karim Amrullah) is an American makeup artist and drag queen.
They are best known for appearing in the third season of Ru Paul’s Drag Race, where they were the winning act.
Gemini is also renowned for their work as a make-up artist to a great many celebrities.
They acted as chief makeup artist on American’s Next Top Model for eight seasons, and have counted Iggy Azalea, Ru Paul, Twiggy, Dita Von Teese and Tyra Bank among their celebrity clientele.
The Origin Story
Gemini was born on June 14th, 1974, in Baldwin Park, California.
They are of Indonesian and Dutch descent.
Gemini spent many of their formative years in their parents’ home country of Indonesia, on the island of Bali.
Gemini moved there when they were 3 years old and later relocated to Jakarta.
They returned to the US when they were 9.
Raja explained in 2015 that, they “moved back to the US because my father converted to Christianity after being fifty years a Muslim.”
They later spoke about the closed nature of Indonesian society, and how little acceptance there is for LGBTQ people outside of Bali.

Gemini became involved in the drag subculture when they were 16.
Their first drag persona was ‘Crayola’ in the early 90s, and they were a popular fixture on the LA club scene.
Gemini attended California State University for two years, before ultimately deciding that their passions lay elsewhere.
They then dropped out to pursue their dream of female impersonation and makeup artistry.
Gemini became a huge name following their part in season 3 of Ru Paul’s Drag Race. As one of the so-called ‘Heathers’ clique, Gemini garnered a reputation as a ‘mean girl’ and was renowned for her withering put-downs of drag queens who were not in her clique.
They were ultimately crowned the winner of season 3, and the following year they toured the US and Canada as part of Logo’s Drag Race Tour.
In 2022, Gemini returned for Ru Paul’s Drag Race All-Stars, in which all of the contestants were previous winners of the show.
They won $50,000 and received the title of “Queen Of She Done Already Done Had Herses.”

Gemini has also created and participated in several live drag shows.

Raja Gemini married their long-term boyfriend, Ryan Turner, in 2017.
The couple were married in a small City Hall ceremony in Norwalk, California.
