She has always had her critics, but ever since the globally famous defamation case against her former partner, her popularity has been on a very sharp downward trajectory.
Amber Heard may be a controversial figure, but she is still an established entertainer, and she has still worked with some of the biggest names in Hollywood.
But who is Amber Heard, how did she become famous, what happened during the infamous court case, who has she dated, and what is her net worth?
The Origin Story

Amber Laura Heard was born on April 22, 1986. She is an American actress who has primarily played supporting roles, or small roles, in a number of Hollywood movies, working alongside some of the biggest names in the biz.
Amber landed her first leading role back in 2006, when she starred in the horror movie All the Boys Love Mandy Lane.
She would also go on to star in films such as Drive Angry, along with The Ward and London Fields.
She has also featured and starred in TV shows, including The Stand, back in 2020.
Amber is also an artist ambassador for the nonprofit human rights organization the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union).
In 2015, Heard married Hollywood actor Johnny Depp, before their marriage was dissolved in 2016.

Since then, both parties have accused the other of domestic abuse, both physically and mentally.
This resulted in two court cases, including Depp vs NGN (News Group Newspapers Ltd) and, of course, the infamous Depp vs Heard trial in 2022.
Early life and career
Heard was born in Austin, Texas, and was the middle daughter of three.
She grew up fishing, hunting, and riding horses with her father.
She would also regularly take part in beauty pageants until she was older.
Like many Texan households, Heard’s was quite religious, and she was raised Catholic.
At age 16, however, she became an atheist after her friend sadly died in a car accident.
Heard had previously attended an all-girls Catholic school but decided to drop out and leave Texas in the hopes of establishing an acting career.

She began her career in 2003, appearing in music videos for Kenny Chesney, as well as landing a small role in the TV series Jack and Bobby, The Mountain and The O.C.
Heard would go on to land some very small supporting roles in movies such as Drop Dead Sexy and North Country.
It was the horror slasher movie All the Boys Love Mandy Lane in 2006 that really put Heard on the map. After that, her career began to grow.

She would work with Nic Cage in Drive Angry, as well as names such as Danny Trejo, Liam Hemsworth, Ed Harris, Kevin Costner, and Harrison Ford.
In 2017, Heard would join the DCU (Detective Comics Universe) as Mera in the superhero movie Justice League. She would play Mera again the following year alongside Jason Momoa in Aquaman.

In the movie, she played the love interest of Johnny Depp’s character. The two would soon find themselves in a relationship, before marrying in 2015, and that’s where things really took a turn for the worse.
Heard vs Depp
You simply cannot create an Amber Heard bio and not talk about the defamation case in 2022, that had the entire world gripped.
Heard, who had previously come out as bisexual, was arrested during her relationship with Taysa Van Ree after allegedly hitting her at an airport.
The arrest only became public knowledge in 2016 after she began divorce proceedings for her marriage to Depp.
After the divorce, Heard made a number of claims against Depp, accusing him of physical and emotional abuse and violence. She requested a restraining order and $50,000 per month as part of the divorce.

Depp would go on to sue Heard for defamation following her allegations, and this did not end well for Amber.
The case became a viral sensation online and was followed intensely by hundreds of millions of people worldwide.
Depp alleged that Heard had been abusive to him and provided evidence to prove so.
Heard was found to have lied on countless occasions and was accused of all manner of awful acts, including defecating on their bed as a “practical joke.” This resulted in many people online referring to her as Amber ‘Turd.’
Much of what Heard alleged was found to have been a lie, and ultimately the vast majority of people sided with Depp. This was especially poignant as it highlighted how men, too, can be victims of physical and emotional abuse and violence.
The jury sided with him, and Depp was awarded $10 million in compensation and $5 million in punitive damages from Heard.

The punitive damages were later reduced to $350,000 due to Virginia State Law. Amber, however, was awarded $2 million in compensatory damages and nothing for punitive damages.
Depp agreed to settle the case in December 2022 for $1 million.
Ultimately, the case destroyed Heard’s reputation, and the general belief is that she will never land another mainstream movie role again. Update – she performed in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023).
Husband/Boyfriends/Girlfriends
Amber Heard came out in the early 2010s and revealed she had been in a relationship with female photographer Taysa Van Ree since 2008.

After domestic violence allegations, Amber and Taysa split in 2012, and she began a relationship with Johnny Depp after working with him on The Rum Diary.
In 2013, they went public, and two years later were married. That, sadly, did not end well, and in January 2017, they were divorced. Following their divorce, she began dating billionaire Elon Musk. They split in 2018, however.
She would then find herself in relationships with Vito Schnabel, Andrés Muschietti, and Bianca Butti.

Since the court case, Amber has kept a low profile and has kept her romantic relationships out of the public eye.
