What is David Raccuglia’s net worth? Is David Raccuglia married?

David Raccuglia is a very successful barber who founded his business, American Crew, a hairdressing firm.

In addition, David is a photographer and an entrepreneur and basically started the ‘male grooming’ industry in the US.

Throughout his life, he has accomplished many things worth writing about and has been, albeit in a distant way, linked to the infamous Chester Weger, a man whom David’s father prosecuted- but we’ll get into that later.

The Origin Story

David seemed to have a difficult childhood due to the 1961 case that his father was involved in.

He subsequently lived in the shadow of his father’s career and struggled to move away from it.

His breakthrough came when he began his career as a barber.

Raccuglia became a hairdresser in 1977 and then attended beauty school after his barber schooling. 

In 1994, he began his successful hairdressing business, American Crew.

David realized that there was no product (men’s shampoo) that men could use for their hair on the market, and, due to his hard work and passion, he developed a product that is a “landmark in the history of men’s grooming.”

American Crew has been in business for 25 years and has been highly successful in its endeavors.

Raccuglia is also known for his passion for photography and does most of the photography for his business, American Crew.

He likes to use black and white features for his photography and has mentioned that he takes inspiration from the 1940-1960s.

The most amazing thing is that David is a self-taught photographer.

He enjoys portraying unique individuals in his work, and his portfolio includes celebrities such as Jack Nicholson, Yoko Ono, and James Brown.

The Murders at Starved Rock

This is a three-part docu-series portraying the events that took place in 1960 in Starved Rock State Park, Illinois.

The murderer, Chester Weger, was convicted of murdering three women (Mildred Linquist, Frances Murphy, and Lillian Oetting) in the park and, according to reports, was coerced into pleading guilty in order to avoid the death penalty. However, Chester Weger tried to plead his case, but to no avail.

Note – Weger was only convicted in Oetting’s killing. 

Since then, the case has remained an obsession for the townspeople, as many have their own opinions regarding what took place that night.

Raccuglia approached HBO before to create a short film about the incident and the controversy behind it whilst trying to find some closure.

David was deeply affected by the incident due to the fact that his father, Anthony Raccuglia, prosecuted Chester Weger.

David was petrified of Chester growing up because of this.

Chester landed up with a life sentence; however, when David and the film crew spoke with the prosecution team in the 2000s (interesting fact – Raccuglia has spent the last 15 years delving into the case files), he realized that there may have been more to the story than what took place in the courtroom.

So, David and the film crew took some time to attempt to find out what took place in 1960 and have produced a true crime series as a result of that.

“His father really was his hero, and then he spent some time questioning that,” McVeigh-Schultz, director of the new HBO miniseries, told The Guardian.

Weger was released on February 21, 2020. He spent nearly 60 years in prison. “They locked me up for 60 years for something I’ve never done,” Weger said.
