Stacey David is an American television show host who is currently the host of Gearz TV show on the Velocity channel and MAV TV.

In addition, he has his own custom shop – ”The Rattletrap.” His shop is specialized in metal fabrication, suspension work, custom paint, engine building, and everything in between.


He was raised in Boise, Idaho, USA.

David helped restore his sister’s 1963 VW bug when he was 12 years old.

During high school, Stacey earned his reputation as the local hotrodder by driving his 1930 5-window coupe (the Ford Motor Company’s 2nd market success after its predecessor, the Model T) to school every day.

David once said:

“I’ve always wanted something unique (to drive) that no one else had, and I found that the only way to get that was to build it.”

Stacey went to Boise State University, a public research university in Boise that has been awarding baccalaureate and master’s degrees since 1965. The university was founded in 1932 by the Episcopal Church and became an independent junior college in 1934.

During his college days, David learned how to race at the local tracks during his classes. In addition, Stacey became a student of legendary hot-rodders Darryl Starbird, John Buttera, and George Barris.

During college, David also absorbed everything he could about racing legends such as – Carroll Shelby, Don Garlits, and Richard Petty.

After he graduated from Boise State University, he went to Nashville as a professional entertainer, starring in several regional television commercials, touring with a few recording artists, and playing guitar on several albums.


At some point, Stacey opened his own custom car shop, called – “Rattletrap.” The services that his car shop offered included:

  • fabrication;
  • custom paint;
  • engine building.


In 1999, David started to host a television show, named – ”Trucks.” His partner on the show was Mel Fair. During the show, Stacey designed and built fantastic rides.

David and Mel hosted ”Trucks” for about 1 year. In 2000, Mel left the TV show. Stacey continued to host ”Trucks” alone until the end of the 2005 season. David left the TV show to pursue ”other opportunities” (as he said).

Interesting fact – ”Trucks” became one of Spike TV’s highest-rated shows.

In the present day, the show is hosted by Ryan Shand and Kevin Neils Tetz.


In March 2007, he started a new show on ESPN2., named – ”Stacey David’s GearZ.” 

Season 9 of the show was syndicated on Velocity.

The show is currently available in multiple streaming, broadcast, and cable networks covering more than 150 million households.


On March 6, 2008, David started his YouTube channel, called – StaceyDavidsGearZ. The channel has over 22 million views, and more than 282,000 subscribers.
