The Origin Story
Tyler Lepley—who sometimes went by the name Tyler Dinnis as a kid—was born on March 24, 1987, in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.
He was raised in Philly by his mom and his stepfather.
Lepley’s biological father is Jamaican, but he credits his stepfather for being the one to raise him—he’s been in Tyler’s life since he was just 6 years old.
Tyler’s mom is Italian, and in an interview, he joked that people used to think he was adopted because he looked nothing like the two people raising him.

Throughout his childhood years, Lepley was bullied for being the only black kid in his school—and often, the only one in his neighborhood.
He graduated from Central Bucks High School West, where he excelled in sports.
A Born Sports Star
Football, basketball, karate, track and field, even boxing—Tyler was a born sportsman.
In June of 2003, however, Lepley suffered an injury—he underwent surgery to be back on the field for the following year.
He won MVP at a Villanova University sports camp, and also a football scholarship to Kutztown University.
He would play college football until the fall of 2007 and graduated with a degree in criminal justice in 2010.
A cousin invited Lepley to come out to Los Angeles in 2011—to find work, check out the local dating scene, and see Hollywood—and Lepley accepted.
He liked LA so much that he stayed, becoming a personal trainer at Santa Monica’s Iron Fitness Gym.

Tyler Lepley was sleeping on his cousin’s couch and working up to 7 days at a time at the busy Santa Monica gym.
In his off time, he was hanging out at a local boxing gym.
It was here that he met a producer.
The producer approached Lepley with a card—he said he liked his look, and personality, and wanted to see about casting him. The producer was legit—within a few weeks, he was signed to a local indie film called Slumber Party Slaughter.
Since Lepley’s first big break, that fluke in a Los Angeles boxing gym, he’s drawn comparisons to a major Canadian celebrity: Drake.
The actor laughs it off, saying:
“I’ve heard it […] but I don’t think I look like him. It must be the part in the hair or the light skin.”
The Road to Hollywood

After his role in Slumber Party Slaughter, Tyler got an agent.
He also took some acting classes and scored another role—this time in the CW’s 90210.
Then, in 2013, he well and truly struck gold, when he won a role as Benjamin “Benny” Young in Tyler Perry’s The Haves and the Have Nots.
He remembers Tyler Perry arriving at his audition in character as Madea—complete with the outfit and makeup—because he was in the middle of shooting a movie for the Madea franchise.
The Haves and the Have Nots is the first ever scripted series to appear on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network.
Since then, the handsome actor has booked roles in the 2013 comedy Baggage Claim, Hollywood Chaos, 2016’s Ringside and Three’s Complicated, and on the Starz drama, P-Valley, as a series regular named Diamond.
2021 saw him cast as Ian in the television series, Harlem.

Wife/Girlfriend
Tyler Lepley is not married. However, Tyler has been dating Miracle Watts since 2021. “Miracle does such a great job of just loving me for everything and just the fullness of who I am,” he said in an interview.
