Yamiche Leone Alcindor is a highly respected US journalist who hosts Washington Week on PBS.
She is also the Washington correspondent for NBC News.
She is one of the most respected journalists in the industry today and has worked as a reporter for the New York Times, USA Today, PBS News Hour, and many more outlets besides.
Born November 1st, 1986, she was born in Miami, to Haitian-born parents.
From a young age, she showed a keen passion for journalism.
In fact, in high school, she was an intern for a local African-American newspaper known as the Westside Gazette.
She would also intern for the highly prestigious Miami Herald in 2005.

Yamiche attended Georgetown University, where she achieved a minor in African American studies and a Bachelor’s Degree in English and Government.
Her first full-time job was working as a reporter for Newsday in New York.
She worked there for over two years and covered a wide range of topics, including the devastating earthquake in Haiti. This was, of course, a sensitive subject for her to cover, as both of her parents were born in Haiti.
As the years went by, she climbed the corporate ladder and would land roles with media outlets such as The New York Times and PBS Newshour.
Alcindor would even appear on TV in 2018 in the Fourth Estate TV show, which was about Times staff who had covered the first 100 days of Donald Trump’s presidency.
Over the course of her career, she has achieved numerous accolades, including being awarded ‘Emerging Journalist of the Year’ in 2013 by the ‘National Association of Black Journalists.’
Because of her high-profile career, and of course, her last name, people often ask if Yamiche Alcindor is related to Lou Alcindor.
Well, we need to learn more about Lou before we can answer that question.

Lou Alcindor is better known to the general public as an NBA legend of basketball named Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Kareem was born Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor Jnr on April 16th, 1947. He stands 7ft 2 inches tall and is considered a true legend of the National Basketball Association, better known as the NBA.
Kareem is a former pro basketball player who played 20 seasons in the NBA, playing for the LA Lakers and the Milwaukee Bucks.
When he played as a center, he was a six-time MVP (Most Valuable Player) as well as a 19-time NBA All-Star, of which he is tied for the most ever with LeBron James.
Many consider Kareem to be one of, if not the best, basketball player in the history of the game.
When you consider the fact that we’ve seen legends such as Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Magic Johnson, Shaq, and so many others, this shows you just how talented of a player the big man really was.
In his early days of playing, Kareem was known as Lou/Lew Alcindor when he played in High School in New York.
When he first turned pro, he turned down a $1 million offer from the Harlem Globetrotters to play for them, choosing instead to compete in the NBA.
He was the first pick overall in the 1969 NBA draft and was picked by the Milwaukee Bucks.

He would go on to have an amazing career, winning countless titles and becoming a media sensation along the way.
In 1988, Kareem, now 41 years old, announced that he would be retiring the following season.
In the ultimate show of respect on his retirement tour, he would receive standing ovations from home and opposition fans and would receive amazing gifts, including a yacht!
When Kareem retired, he held the record for most career games in the NBA, as well as holding the record for most field goals made.
Following his retirement, he has remained a beloved public figure and has appeared on countless TV shows, documentaries, commercials, and reality TV series, including Splash, Dancing with the Stars, the Big Bang Theory, BASEketball, The Simpsons, and many more besides.

Is Yamiche Alcindor related to Lou Alcindor?
As you can see, Yamiche has forged quite the career for herself in journalism, and considering she is still so young, who knows just how far she can go?
Lou, better known as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, is a true sporting legend, and considering they share the same last name, many wonder whether the two are related.
Considering the age difference, Kareem could be Yamiche’s father, or even grandfather, which is what some people believe.
The truth, however, is that they are NOT related to each other.
Despite sharing the same last name, Yamiche and Lou Alcindor are not related to each other and have no links to one another at all.
