“In my retirement, I’ve learned that what I gained on the field in terms of self-esteem is priceless, and then now, I find myself doing things that I just experience joy,” Abby said for Today in a 2021 interview. “I think, especially women, we forget to have fun. And so if you are struggling to figure out how to get out, how to be active, don’t worry about the word sport if that scares you.”
Arrested for DUI
In April 2016, Wambach was arrested on a DUI charge. Police stopped her after she ran a red light at Taylor Street and Southwest 13th Avenue.
“I take full responsibility for my actions,” Wambach wrote on her Facebook after release. “This is all on me.”
