Boyfriend

Brette Harrington was in a relationship with alpinist Marc-André Leclerc.

Leclerc was known for playing Enya on his headphones while climbing.

“I loved Marc so much,” Harrington told Los Angeles Times. She added: “I didn’t even know you could love someone that much.”

The two started seeing each other when she was 20 and he was 19.

Brette met Marc-André in Squamish in 2012 through a climbing friend. Leclerc had gotten into climbing after reading a book his mom gave him during childhood.

“As a person, Marc is just such a beautiful person and very unique,” Brette told Manny The Movie Guy. “He listened to super eccentric music, really fast-paced, but then he was also very calm like at night he would read, so he had these two extreme energies from like super high and fast to like very calm and slow and thoughtful, so he was kind of everything in between, and I just loved him.”

In 2018, Marc-André Leclerc died after climbing an ascent in Alaska. He was fatally swept away by an avalanche with his friend Ryan Johnson.

The Alpinist is a documentary that tells the story of Leclerc’s life and death at age 25. It won a Sports Emmy in the category of “outstanding long documentary.”

The documentary was co-directed by Nick Rosen and Peter Mortimer.

“I think that the producers and the directors did a really good job of trying to capture his personality,” Harrington said in an interview with Gig Patta. “It’s impossible to really know somebody unless you live with them to like portray that in a film, so I think they did the best they could, and I think Marc would be proud of it.”
