Crazy Russian Hacker is an insanely popular product reviewer and entertainer who hails from Ukraine and makes his home in the US.

Here’s what we know about the super-cool mad scientist of product reviewing, with the catchphrase:

“Welcome to my laboratory, where safety is number one priority!”

The Origin Story

Crazy Russian Hacker was born Taras Kulakov in what is now Ukraine.

He was born on March 11th, 1987, to a Ukrainian dad and Russian mom. He has two brothers, three sisters, and also states that he has a half-brother and half-sister.

As a kid, Taras lived in Donetsk, a Russian-speaking city in Eastern Ukraine.

Despite being Ukrainian-born and having a Ukrainian father, Kulakov identifies as Russian because that is the language he speaks.

He was an excellent swimmer as a kid, and even joined the Ukrainian Olympic swim team.

In 2009, his family relocated to Asheville, North Carolina.

Kulakov, who was 22 at the time, went with them, and got a job at the local Walmart.

Yes.

There are some online conspiracy theorists who think Kulakov is actually an American guy putting on a fake Russian accent.

Kulakov embraced the American lifestyle with gusto, and found a way to combine his unique hobbies with his fun-loving, energetic, entertaining personality.

In his own words:

“I got camera, a basic cord, I start talking. Like ‘What’s up everybody (…) today we’re going to walk on eggs. And so I walked on eggs and they didn’t break and that’s how I started making videos.”

In 2009, while he was still working at Walmart in North Carolina, Kulakov launched his first YouTube channel—Origami768. He shared video tutorials of him creating origami pieces, like this origami raptor.

He eventually changed the name of the channel to Taras Kul, and it had gained 3.7 million followers by the end of 2020.

In 2012, having been bitten by the YouTube influencer bug, Kulakov started a new channel.
