Stratton Oakmont
In 1989, he and Jordan Belfort founded Stratton Oakmont, an “over-the-counter” brokerage house. Porush served as the president and Jordan as the chairman.

During the late 80s and 90s, the firm became the largest OTC firm in the US. The company was involved in the initial public offering of Steve Madden Ltd.
At some point, Stratton Oakmont employed over 1,000 stockbrokers.
In December 1996, the National Association of Securities Dealers permanently expelled Stratton Oakmont.
In 1999, Porush was convicted of money laundering and securities fraud at the Stratton Oakmont.
Danny served 39 months in prison. Belfort was sentenced to two years. Both received less prison time since they cooperated with prosecutors.
In 2004, he was released from prison on probation.
Following his release from prison, Danny became involved with Med-Care, a company that sells medical products, including breathing oxygen equipment and diabetes supplies.

Jordan Belfort is played by Leonardo DiCaprio, while the character of Donnie Azoff, portrayed by Jonah Hill, was loosely based on Danny. The film was directed by Martin Scorsese.
Belfort received $1 million after selling the rights of his memoir. ”The Wolf of Wall Street” grossed more than $392 million at the box office.

In 2014, a former Med-Care employee (Tiffany Bumbury) filed a complaint in federal court in Florida accusing Danny and others leaders of Med-Care Diabetic & Medical Supplies Inc of using misleading telemarketers to sell unneeded medical equipment to patients. At the time, the company had over 500 employees.
In the complaint, Tiffany made an allegation regarding the fact that telemarketers were instructed to say whatever was necessary to make a sale.
In January 2015, FBI agents raided the offices of Med-Care Diabetic & Medical Supplies Inc.

Wife
In 1986, Danny married his cousin, Nancy.
”When I first met Danny in 1984, he ran a bike-messenger business in the city,” Nancy told New York Post in December 2013. She also said: ”It [the wedding] took place in January 1986 when I was 24 years old.”
Porush and Nancy had three children together.
The two divorced in 2000.
In October 2020, Porush married Lisa Krause.

In 2006, Nancy sued Danny for failure to pay child support, about $5,500 a month.
