Die Antwoord Net Worth 2024

Die Antwoord Net Worth – $8 million

Introduction

Die Antwoord is a South-African alternative, hip-hop, rap-rave male-female duo group and the founders of Zef Recordz.

The Origin Story

Die Antwoord is an alternative hip-hop band comprised of Anri “Yolandi Visser” du Toit and Watkin Tudor “Ninja” Jones.

The band was initially formed in 2008 as a musical representation of the South African counterculture movement, known as zef.

This movement rose to prominence as a direct response to the end of the apartheid political governing system in South Africa. Zef is a subculture that has been described as modern and trashy.

The band members settled on the name, “Die Antwoord,” an Afrikaans term that translates to “The Answer.”

Following the band’s formation, the due immediately began to work on their debut album, “$O$. The album was originally circulated only on the internet and their website.

Two of the more notable songs from the record are “Wat Pomp?” and “Enter the Ninja.”

Following the successful release of a few songs, the band was signed by Interscope Records, and the album was re-released in physical format but with a different track listing.

Surprisingly, the band became an overnight sensation in the global rave scene and was invited to play a live concert at the 2010 Coachella Music Festival.

Following their album tour and many other live performances, the duo worked on an extended play (EP) in the studio.

“5” was released on July 27, 2010, via Cherrytree Records.

It included a combination of previous tracks and new tracks. It was a spinoff to their previous album and a circulation of their hit single “Enter the Ninja.”

Only three months later, on October 12, 2010, they released a second 5-track EP titled “Ekstra” via Interscope Records.

Shortly after the release of Ekstra, the band was invited to perform live at the Big Day Out music festival that took place in New Zealand and Australia.

The show was a hit with the audience, and their music began to grow like wildfire.

Because being part of the live circuit wasn’t a good enough accomplishment, they were stunned with more surprising successes when they arrived home.

Die Antwoord had won the Myspace Best Music Video award for their 2010 music video, “Enter the Ninja.”

The future looked promising for the duo.

While things were looking up for the band, fate took a turn in November 2011.

The duo decided to leave Interscope Records due to a dispute concerning their upcoming album and lead single.

They needed to act quickly and find a new label, which is not easy.

As a result, they decided to form their own independent label, “Zef Recordz.” Following this new venture, they were ready to release another album, “Ten$ion.”

The album was officially released on January 22, 2012, and was an instant hit. It charted at No. 20 on the Billboard Dance/Electronic Albums chart.

Between 2012 and 2014, the band released a few non-album singles, including “XPENSIV $H1T” and “Diz Iz Why I’m Hot.”

During their break, the duo was focused on expanding their record label and bridging on new up-and-coming bands.

In 2014, the band set out on a European tour between June and July. Before the tour began, they released their third studio album, “Donker Mag,” on June 3, 2014. Of this album, one of the biggest hits was the single “Pitbull Terrier.”

In addition to most of the independent singles on the album, they included a few remixes of hit songs written by other famous artists.

This fourth studio album included 16 original tracks and was immediately available through digital download and physical copies.

The best performing single on the album was “Banana Brain.”

While it was evident that the duo loved what they created as a musical group, they took to their social media in 2017 to publicly state that their next album would be their final.

They originally titled the album “The Book of Zef” but later changed it to “27.”

The album was set to be released over the course of 2018.

The album included many other South African rappers, including Slagysta and G.Boy.

Though they periodically released singles throughout 2018 and 2019, an album was not released.

Instead, “House of Zef,” their most recent album, was released on March 16, 2020.

The 12-track album is their fifth and final debut album, and the duo shared no plans for an album-related tour.

They decided to focus on other ventures that they both feel passionate about.

As of 2019, they began releasing an online reality web series called ZEF TV. It is a YouTube mini-series that includes footage of the duo throughout their career.
