Describes as Felicity Day Lite, the vivacious—and sometimes ruthless—Grace Randolph has her finger on the pulse of geekdom.

Grace’s opinions and point of view on several matters in the comic book sphere can be divisive, but you can’t deny that she’s worked hard to build a following in the comic genre.

Here’s what we know about the outspoken web series host.

The Origin Story

Grace Randolph was born in New York City on February 5, 1987.

She doesn’t talk much about her family and upbringing, but we do know she studied at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.

The Big Break

When Randolph was twenty years old, she joined the Upright Citizens Brigade to follow her dreams of being a comedian.

The Upright Citizens Brigade is a sketch comedy and improv troupe created in Chicago in 1990—it once featured comedy legends like Amy Poehler, Matt Walsh, and Rick Roman.

The group’s first show was called Virtual Reality, and they went on to have hits with Thunderball and Punch Your Friend in the Face.

After a stint with the Upright Citizens Brigade, Grace’s career also took her into sketch comedy with Monkeys in the Atrium, to TitanTV Media as a freelance host and writer, and then on to TOKYOPOP as a comic book writer.

She freelanced at the premiere US manga publisher while also working a side hustle for DC comics, before creating Supurbia at Boom! Studios in November of 2012. This gig lasted about a year.

After that, Randolph joined Marvel Entertainment as a host and writer for The Watcher—but was fired within a year.

Unable to find work in her chosen field after her failed run with the comic giant, she started her own YouTube channel in 2008.

Beyond the Trailer follows everything from movies, books, comedy, and television, and also allows Randolph to showcase some of her own creations.

With her unique kind of humor, outspoken opinions, and quality commentary, she gradually grew her subscriber base over the next decade.

At the time of writing, she has almost a million subscribers.

Beyond the Trailer was acquired by Penske Media Corporation in 2012, followed by an association with Movieline before she became an entertainment correspondent for Good Morning Connecticut.

In 2019, she appeared at the end of Zombieland: Double Tap alongside Bill Murray, who played a cameo role as himself.

A Creative Mind

In her time at TOKYOPOP, Grace created manga adaptations of some of the gaming industry’s biggest success stories—like Warcraft and StarCraft.

She also created comic content for the DC Comics Justice League series, and for Boom! Studios’ lesser-known Muppet Peter Pan.

She’s done origin stories for some of the female Avengers in the Marvel universe as well as written for X-Men: Nation X, and even created a comic based on 80’s iconic cartoon, Fraggle Rock.

The 2021 rendition of Space Jam, with LeBron James filling Michael Jordan’s shoes as the lead, was slated as an “airball” that should be watched “on HBO Max, if at all.”

She called the twist at the end of M. Night Shyamalan’s Old “stupid” but also said it was one of his best films to date.

It’s not all bad, though—she hailed Batman: The Long Halloween Part I “a treat for comic book fans and movie fans.”
