Hugh Beaumont was a famous actor and writer who had a net worth of $3 million at the time of his death. He is best known for his role in the famous television series Leave It to Beaver.

Though he passed several years ago, his memory and work in the entertainment industry are still notable today.

He was born in Lawrence, Kansas, on February 16, 1909, as Eugene Hugh Beaumont. Hugh died on May 14, 1982.

His parents were Edward H. Beaumont and Ethel Adaline Whitney.

His father was a traveling salesman, which meant the family was constantly moving.

Beaumont attended Baylor School in Tennessee and graduated in 1930.

He then attended the University of Chattanooga.

In 1946, Hugh received a Master of Theology degree from the University of Southern California.

Beaumont is best known as Ward Cleaver on the television comedy series “Leave it to Beaver” from 1957 to 1963. The character of Cleaver, as played by Beaumont, was named number 28 on TV Guide’s list of the 50 greatest fathers of all time.

His acting career began in 1931 when he performed in theatres, nightclubs, and the radio.

In 1940, he started appearing in dozens of films, many of which were minor roles that were not credited.

From 1946 to 1947, he starred in five films as private detective Michael Shayne, and then in 1950, he narrated a short film, A Date with Your Family.

In the 50s, he worked in several guest roles on several different series, including The Lone Ranger and Adventures of Superman.

In 1957, he portrayed Ward Cleaver in the pilot for the sitcom Leave it to Beaver. The success of the initial airing led to the series being moved to ABC. in the third season, Beaumont began directing several episodes of the show.

After the conclusion of Leave it to Beaver, he appeared in many theatre productions and made guest appearances on numerous television series.

He also had great success as a writer and sold several screenplays, radio scripts, and short stories.

After suffering a severe stroke in 1972, he retired from the entertainment industry.

Hugh Beaumont – Wife

On April 13, 1941, Hugh Beaumont married Kathryn Adams Doty. Kathryn (passed away on October 14, 2016) was an actress known for her roles in Blonde for a Day, Fifth Avenue Girl, Saboteur, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

In “Blonde for a Day,” Hugh and Kathryn performed together.

Children

The couple had three children, Hunter, Mark, and Kristy.

His daughter said in 2020 that her Dad was “just like” Ward Cleaver in Leave it to Beaver.

Beaumont and Adams were married for thirty-three years before their divorce in 1974. Later, she remarried Fred Doty.

Death

Beaumont died of a heart attack on May 14, 1982.

His body was cremated.
