Biography
He was born on June 11, 1959, in Blackbird Leys, Oxfordshire, England, as James Hugh Calum Laurie, to William and Patricia Laurie.
His father was medical doctor who won a gold medal at the 1948 London Olympics.
At age 6, Hugh began taking piano lessons.
He attended Selwyn College at the University of Cambridge, where he studied anthropology.
In 1977, he won the National Junior Championship for rowing.

Laurie rose to fame in the 1980s through his comedic double act with Stephen Fry.

In 1986, he appeared in the music video for the single Experiment IV by English singer-songwriter Kate Bush.
House
From 2004 to 2012, Laurie played Dr. Gregory House, a brilliant but troubled doctor with an unconventional bedside manner who comes up with crazy theories to treat his patients in New Jersey.
“I don’t talk like House, or walk like him,” Laurie revealed in 2012 about Dr. House. “I certainly don’t think like him. I am a fragile flower.”

“I can’t remember any of the lines at all, but when ‘action’ is shouted, I start limping,” he revealed during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show.
In 2007, he was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire.

Before marrying Jo Green, Laurie was in a relationship with actress Emma Thompson. She played Divination teacher Sybill Trelawney in Harry Potter.
Laurie and Thompson dated when they were both at Cambridge.
