In 2020, August Alsina claimed that he had been romantically involved with Jada Pinkett Smith in the past.
“I totally gave myself to that relationship for years of my life, and I truly and really, really deeply love and have a ton of love for her,” he revealed in an interview with “Breakfast Club” host Angela Yee.
Alsina also said that he had Will Smith‘s blessing.
“He gave me his blessing,” August stated. “I actually sat down with Will and had a conversation due to the transformation from their marriage to life partnership.”
August first met Jada Pinkett through her son Jaden, back in 2015.
In July 2020, Pinkett Smith confessed she had a relationship with Alsina while briefly separated from Will Smith.
Will Smith and Jada Pinkett have been married since December 1997. They share daughter Willow and son Jaden. The pair began their relationship while he was still married to his ex-wife, Sheree Zampino.
Rumours first began to swirl about Jada’s entanglement when she and Alsina were photographed looking loved-up at the 2017 BET Awards.

August Alsina released the new song Entanglements
On July 18, 2020, August Alsina dropped the song ‘Entanglements,’ using Jada Pinkett’s term for their relationship.
“Girl, I know that we don’t call it a relationship, but you’re still f–king with me,” he sang. “The definition of entanglement is when you tangle in the sheets.”

Jada denied that Will Smith had given Alsina “permission” to carry on the relationship.

“The only person that can give permission in that circumstance is myself,” she said during an episode of Red Table Talk. “But what August was probably trying to communicate because I could see how he could see it as permission because we were separated amicably, and I think he wanted to make it clear he’s not a homewrecker because he’s not.”
In September 2021, Will Smith said during an interview with GQ that he and Jada have an open marriage.
“We have given each other trust and freedom, with the belief that everybody has to find their own way. ” he explained. “Jada never believed in conventional marriage. And marriage for us can’t be a prison.”

During their talk, Laverne told the couple, “We can’t wait for more Red Table Talk and more, more entanglements.”
In response to Laverne’s comment, the Smiths laughed. “No more of those!”
Will and Jada Smith ‘separated in 2016’
In October 2023, Pinkett Smith revealed that she and Smith had been separated since 2016 and were living apart.
Even though she and Smith are separated, she said they’re not interested in getting a divorce.
“I think we were both kind of just still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be,” Jada said
In November 2024, Jada and Will spent Thanksgiving together in a large gathering of family and friends. More than 60 people were in attendance altogether.

In early 2025, People wrote that Jada Pinkett and Will Smith are living their own lives but haven’t completely severed ties. They reportedly are ‘still together’ but ‘have had separate homes for years.’
