She was born on October 15, 1944, in Camden, Alabama, US, as Kay Ellen Ivey.

In 1967, Kay graduated from Auburn University. During college, she was involved in campus political organizations.

After college, Ivey had a brief career as a teacher and banker.

In 1979, Kay left the bank to serve in Gov. Fob James’ cabinet.

From 1980 to 1982, Ivey served as a reading clerk in the Alabama House of Representatives.

In November 2018, Kay was elected as Governor for a full term. Ivey is the second female governor in the state’s history.
