He was also the writer, co-executive producer, and star of the HBO show ”Curb Your Enthusiasm.”

Biography

He was born on July 2, 1947, in Brooklyn, New York City, New York, USA, as Lawrence Gene David.

His father was a clothing salesman, while his mother did clerical work.

He is a distant cousin of Bernie Sanders.

”I grew up in an apartment in Brooklyn,” David told Forbes about his childhood. ”My aunt and uncle and my cousins were right next door, and my grandmother and my sane uncle and my other cousin, they were on the third floor.” He added: ”Everybody kept walking in and out, there was no privacy.”

He graduated from Sheepshead Bay High School.

Larry earned a degree in history from the University of Maryland.

After college, Larry enlisted in the United States Army Reserve.

“I wasn’t gonna [go to Vietnam] under any circumstances,” David told Howard Stern. ”I signed up for the Reserves, some of my friends were signing up, so I thought, ‘I’ll sign up, too.’ At that time, they weren’t really using a lot of reservists in Vietnam.”

From 1980 to 1982, he was a writer and performer on ABC’s late-night comedy series “Fridays.”

From 1984 to 1985, David was a cast member and a writer on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live.” He has portrayed Senator Bernie Sanders at least 10 times on SNL.

Seinfeld

In 1989, Larry teamed up with Jerry Seinfeld to create a pilot for NBC called The Seinfeld Chronicles, which later became Seinfeld — a “show about nothing,” in which the main characters would “just make fun of stuff.”

From 1989 to 1996, David served as the head writer and executive producer on Seinfeld.

He left the series after the 7th season but was invited back by Seinfeld to write the series finale.

In 1993, Larry was awarded two Primetime Emmy Awards for his work on Seinfeld.

Curb Your Enthusiasm

In October 1999, HBO aired a mockumentary special titled – ”Larry David: Curb Your Enthusiasm.”

In 2000, David became the lead actor, creator, and writer on HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm.

The second season was nominated for an “Outstanding Comedy Series” Emmy.

In 2009, Larry performed in the Woody Allen film, Whatever Works.

In 2015, David made a guest appearance as Future Ruxin in one episode of the TV series ”The League.”

Wife

On March 31, 1993, Larry David married Laurie Lennard.

Laurie produced comedy specials for Fox Television, MTV, Showtime, and HBO. Laurie also serves as a member of the Advisory Board of the Children’s Nature Institute and a trustee on the Natural Resources Defense Council.

They divorced in 2007.

The two met at comedian Sacha Baron Cohen’s birthday party in 2017.
