Biography
He was born on March 18, 1962, in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, as Michael Gregory Rowe.
In 1980, Rowe graduated from Overlea High School.
In 1984, Mike faked his way into the Baltimore Opera to get his union card and meeting women.
”There were maybe 30 guys,” Rowe said in a 2009 interview. ”Twenty-five of them had no interest in any of the girls. The other five – well, three were married, and the other single guy, he had a mole on his eyelid with a lot of black hair growing out of it. So basically, it was me.”
In 1985, Mike graduated from Towson University with a degree in communication studies.
After graduating from university, he started to host various TV shows. He also began to host ‘Your New Home’ for WJZ-TV in Baltimore.
From 2001 to 2004, he hosted The Most for The History Channel.
From 2001 to 2005, Rowe hosted Evening Magazine on KPIX-TV in San Francisco.
In 2005, Mike started to narrate Deadliest Catch, a reality series that follows crab fishermen aboard fishing vessels in the Bering Sea.

From 2005 to 2012, Rowe hosted Dirty Jobs, a reality series where he performs various dirty and dangerous jobs around the USA.
”My role on the show, for those of you who haven’t seen it – it’s pretty simple. I’m an apprentice, and I work with the people who do the jobs in question,” Rowe said in a Ted talk. ”And my responsibilities are to simply try and keep up and give an honest account of what it’s like to be these people for one day in their life.”
For the series, Mike traveled to all 50 states and completed 300 different jobs, transforming cable television into a landscape of oil derricks, coal mines, ice roads, sewers, and swamps. The series was nominated for five Primetime Emmys.
In 2008, he launched mikeroweWORKS, a foundation that awards scholarships to students pursuing a career in the skilled trades.
From 2009 to 2012, he was the announcer on ABC World News with Diane Sawyer.
From 2010 to 2016, Mike was a narrator for the TV series ”Ghost Hunters.”
In May 2011, Rowe testified before the US Senate Commerce Committee about the importance of changing stereotypes and perceptions around blue-collar work.
