Tony Khan is a co-owner of the All Elite Wrestling (AEW) promotion, Fulham F.C. of the English Premier League, and the Jacksonville Jaguars of the National Football League.
He was born on October 10, 1982, in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, USA, as Antony Rafiq Khan.
His mother, Ann Carlson Khan, is a social worker.
His father, Shahid Khan, is the owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars of the NFL since 2011. He’s also the owner of Fulham F.C. since 2013. Shahid initially started earning his money with Flex-N-Gate, an automobile manufacturing company.
His parents first met in 1967 while they were both attending the University of Illinois.
Tony was a fan of pro wrestling at a young age. ”In eighth grade, I was the biggest wrestling fan in the world,” Tony told Sporting News in 2020. He added: ”Trading tapes, wearing Japanese wrestling shirts, wearing my Taz shirt when he was in ECW.”
In 2001, Khan graduated from the University Laboratory High School.
In 2007, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in finance from the College of Business at the University of Illinois.
In July 2012, he joined the Jacksonville Jaguars as co-owner. Currently, Tony is the Senior Vice President of Football Technology & Analytics.
On February 23, 2017, Tony was named Fulham’s Vice Chairman and Director of Football Operations.
The team was promoted to the Premier League on May 26, 2018. Fulham F.C. received $125 million — the annual revenue share a team owner makes in the Premier League.
All Elite Wrestling
In January 2019, Tony, along with his father, founded All Elite Wrestling (AEW). ”I really love wrestling, I always loved wrestling, and I love being in the wrestling business,” Tony said.
”I am the lead investor, a supporter, and a backer of All Elite Wrestling, and I anticipate great things today and into the future for AEW,” Shahid Khan detailed in a later interview.
Note – AEW is partially named after wrestling group The Elite, consisting of Adam Page, Marty Scurll, Kenny Omega, Cody Rhodes, and The Young Bucks.
In 2020, All Elite Wrestling established AEW Revolution, a professional wrestling pay-per-view.
In December 2020, All Elite Wrestling started a partnership with Impact Wrestling.
In May 2021, it was reported that AEW Rampage and AEW Dynamite will be moving to TBS starting in January 2022.
”The financial upside to our new agreement will give us the opportunity to continue to invest in and grow AEW,” Tony said in an interview. He also said: ”The history of wrestling in the United States cannot be told without acknowledging the contributions of TBS.”
In May 2021, Fulham F.C. was relegated from the Premier League after suffering defeat from Burnley.
On May 21, 2021, Jacksonville Jaguars signed Tim Tebow for a one-year deal. Tebow hasn’t played in the NFL since the 2015 pre-season.
”I can’t say too much, but Tim has come in and worked out as a tight end,” Tony said in a press release. ”Tim’s got a great history of winning.”
