Hassan Haskins was born on November 26, 1999, in St Louis, Missouri.

Hassan started out playing football at Eureka High School in Eureka, Missouri, where he earned a name for himself as a workmanlike player with consistency and physicality.

Haskins also played basketball and competed in track and field events, although he gave this up to focus on football when he got to college.

In football, he excelled as RB1 and earned himself a spot with the University of Michigan.

He committed to the program on October 29, 2017, as the university’s three-star running back.

At the time he was the 82nd best running back in the US.

Hassan Haskins moved to the position of linebacker in his freshman year at the University of Michigan, before shifting back to his running back position following Karan Higdon’s graduation and Chris Evans’ suspension.

Throughout his college career, Haskins credited his time spent at linebacker with helping him develop his vision of the running lanes and assisting him in thinking like the opposition.

Haskins caught attention in November of 2021 when he recorded five rushing touchdowns against Ohio State.

This allowed him to finish the regular season with an impressive 1,232 rushing yards on 244 carries, tying him for second place in program history with a total of 18 rushing touchdowns in one season.

He played in the 2021 Big Ten Football Championship Games and rounded out his college football career with the most carries over a 2 year span without fumbling.

On April 30, 2022, Hassan Haskins was the 26th pick in Round Four of the 2022 NFL Draft. He secured a place with the Tennessee Titans.

Dwayne Haskins Jr. was born on May 3, 1997, and raised in Highland Park, New Jersey.

He is the son of Dwayne Haskins Sr. and Tamara Haskins, who still live in New Jersey.

Dwayne met NFL wide receiver Mohamed Sanu while he was in high school. Sanu is the uncle of Haskins’ close friend Mohamed Jabbie, and it was Jabbie who introduced the two.

Sanu agreed to become Haskins’ mentor, as Haskins knew from an early age that football would be a way for him to provide for his family.

Throughout high school, Sanu guided Haskins through his training, and helped him to develop more physical and mental discipline—something that coaches and prospective teams thought he lacked.

Haskins enrolled at Ohio State in 2017, predominantly to play in the Big Ten Conference and be seen by scouts and prospective NFL teams.

The plan worked—he set records at the Big Ten Conference in his sophomore year for single-season passing yards and passing touchdowns.

Dwayne’s performance on the field also earned him the Sammy Baugh Trophy, the Kellen Moore Award, and several other football honors with the Buckeyes.

Haskins was a first-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, joining the Washington Redskins for two seasons before being released.

At the time, his release was put down to inconsistent play, although some questioned his work ethic on the field.

The Pittsburgh Steelers picked Haskins up in 2021 and put him into a backup role. He would remain with the Steelers until his tragic death the following year.

How Did Dwayne Haskins Die?

On the morning of April 9, 2022, Haskins called his wife to tell her he had run out of gas for his rental car.

At the time, he was in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to train with the Steelers for the upcoming season.

He told his wife that he was going to walk to a gas station. On the way there, he was struck by a truck and then another vehicle while attempting to cross Interstate 595.

His wife, who had not heard back from Dwayne, called 911 to raise the alarm.

Two funerals were held in Dwayne’s honor—one by his wife, who Dwayne’s family had never met, and one in his hometown that was attended by friends and family.

While Dwayne Haskins does have an older brother, and that older brother does play in the NFL, it isn’t Hassan Haskins.

Dwayne’s brother, Maurice Alexander, was a Fourth Round pick for the St. Louis Rams in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Hassan is no relation to either Maurice or Dwayne.
