Cody Jinks is an American singer-songwriter.
He is best known for his work in the ‘Outlaw Country’ subgenre of music.
The Origin Story
Jinks was born on August 18th, 1980, in Arlington, Texas, to Steve and Gayla Jinks, as Meredith Cody Jinks.
He was raised in Haltom City.
His father had two jobs when Jinks was still an infant – one in construction during the day, and another working meat freezers at night.
His mother was a full-time housewife.
Jinks has commented in the past that his family was at the lower end of the middle class and that sometimes they had to go without luxuries because they couldn’t afford them.
Jinks would later state that he was unable to go to college because of his full-time job, girlfriend, and work in a local band.

Instead, he worked at a freight dock for many years.
Jinks has said that his blue-collar roots have afforded him great respect for people of other cultures and nationalities.
Throughout his time working freight docks, Jinks worked with Mexican and Middle Eastern people and developed a mutual respect for both.
Unchecked Aggression
Jinks started out as the vocalist in a thrash metal band called Unchecked Aggression, in a move he attributed to teenage rebelliousness.
He also played the lead guitar in the band.
In 2004, the band broke up, and Jinks took a year off from his musical pursuits.
When he did return to music, it was no longer metal he was interested in, but country music.
Debut Album
In 2008, Jinks released his first country album, which is no longer in print.
He followed that up with Cast No Stones (also released in 2008) and Less Wise (released in 2010).
Cody prided himself on his self-sufficiency; his albums were released under no label, and he took care of his marketing, distribution, and tour dates entirely by himself.

Jinks’ music is characterized by defiance against authority blended with a softer, more conciliatory live-and-let-live attitude.
His songs are often quite political, with many of his lyrics targeting the establishment and career politicians.
Cody attributes a lot of this world-weariness with the system to concern for the world that his children are going to inherit.
Jinks’ most popular album, Lifers, was released in 2018 and peaked at #11 on the US Billboard chart.
His last release, Mercy, was released in November 2021 and reached #80. Since that time, Jinks hasn’t had any new releases.
Wife & Children
Cody Jinks has been married to his wife, Rebecca, since 2013 – though the two of them met long before that.
Jinks has written several songs dedicated to his wife.
Rebecca, herself a songwriter, often acts as an advisor to her husband and has written some of his most successful songs herself.
“My wife’s a tough lady,” Jinks said in an interview in early 2016. “She’s been with me through all this. She’s been coast to coast with me, she’s done two tours in Europe with me — before kids.”
Cody has two children – a son and a daughter.
Jinks is extremely protective of both of his children, going so far as to not publicly reveal their names.
He often credits his children as motivation for many of his more powerful lyrics.
