Destination Truth
On June 6, 2007, Gates started to serve as the host of the paranormal reality television series Destination Truth on Syfy.
During the show, Josh and his team spent a night wandering around Chernobyl, explored the Island of the Dolls, traveled to Peru to investigate a lost Incan city with reports of ghostly activity, went to Malaysia’s Endau Rompin National Park to look into reports of Bigfoot sightings, spent two nights along the Amazon River in Brazil, slept in King Tut’s tomb, and searched for an Iguanadon in the jungles near the village of Tinganavudu.
”One of the things that I love about the show is that it is educational, it is historical, but it’s not a dry history lesson,” Gates said in an interview. ”A lot of the show involves travel, it involves the actual act of getting to these places, because they are really often very far off the grid.”
In 2011, Gates released the book, Destination Truth: Memoirs of a Monster Hunter.

From 2007 to 2013, Josh was the host of 13 episodes of the one-hour weekly docu-soap ”Ghost Hunters.”
In 2013, Gates produced Stranded, a paranormal reality TV series that premiered on the SyFy channel.
Expedition Unknown
On January 8, 2015, Josh became the host of Expedition Unknown, a reality television series that investigates the world’s most enduring legends. The series is produced by Ping Pong Productions.
For ”Expedition Unknown,” Josh has even traveled into the Amazon to experience ayahuasca, a psychoactive brew that is prepared by simultaneously boiling two admixture plants, Psychotria viridis (Rubiaceae) and Banisteriopsis caapi (Malpighiaceae).
Ayahuasca is used for religious and spiritual purposes by ancient Amazonian tribes.
”It was a really challenging experience for me, certainly not something that I was used to doing,” Gates told Fox News.
In April 2020, he signed a new three-year deal with Discovery Channel for hosting Expedition Unknown.
”My passion is to share stories through exploration and connect viewers with captivating tales of history’s greatest legends and mysteries,” Gates stated at the time. ”I’m so excited to continue that mission and invite our fans along for all-new adventures on Discovery Channel.”
