What is Sahith Theegala’s net worth?
Sahith Theegala (pronunciation is SAW-hith Theegala) is an Indian American from California who made his pro debut in 2020.
He was born on December 4, 1997, in Orange, California.
Sahith Theegala’s parents are Karuna and Muralidhar Theegala.
His father was born in Hyderabad, India, and moved to the United States in 1987.
“I’m definitely very proud of my background and my Indian heritage,” Sahith Theegala said.
Sahith has a younger brother, Sahan.
At age 2, Sahith moved to Chino Hills outside of LA.
The Road To Professional Golfer
His father said that Sahith practiced until dark, even when he was young.
He grew up playing golf on the local municipal courses.
Theegala won the Junior World Championship three times — at ages 6, 8, and 10.
In 2015, he graduated from Diamond Bar High School in California.
While attending high school, Theegala was an All-Sierra League first-team selection.
In 2016, he tied for seventh at the Canadian Amateur Championship.
In 2018, Theegala suffered a wrist injury, which forced him to miss the entire 2018-2019 season. He also had surgery in January 2019.
“It made the most sense to Sahith to take a year to get healthy,” said his head coach Michael Beard in a 2018 interview with GolfWeek. Beard added: “[To] build back up for … an easier transition to professional golf.”
“I just took it and tried to be as positive as possible,” he said about his wrist injury.
In 2019, Sahith graduated from Pepperdine University, majoring in sports administration.
During college, Theegala received many awards, including:
- the Jack Nicklaus Award;
- the Ben Hogan Award;
- the Fred Haskins Award.
The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Theegala made his PGA Tour debut in 2017.
In January 2020, he won the Australian Master of the Amateurs.
As an amateur golfer, Theegala reached as high as no. 3 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking.
He turned pro in June 2020.
His first tournament was at the Outlaw Tour’s Lone Tree Classic. Theegala finished third.
In March 2021, he made his debut on Korn Ferry Tour. He finished tied for 19th.
In 2022, Theegala moved to Houston.
“It’s a two-hour flight everywhere direct, and it’s been so awesome for that,” Theegala explained the reason for his move from LA to Houston. “I’m gonna be an LA, California guy my whole life, but just golf, I feel like in Houston is more similar to a lot of the courses that we play.”
In February 2022, Theegala received a sponsor exemption to enter WM Phoenix Open. “Thanks for giving me this chance,” he said in a statement.
In June 2022, Sahith tied for second in the Travelers Championship.
“I feel like I’m not playing too bad, but it’s really cool to see the progression,” Theegala said in an interview after the tournament. “I was texting my coach, Michael Beard, about it just to see how far I’ve come since he carried for me here. I feel like my game is at a totally new level which just is a testament to all the work that me and my close team have put in.”
He qualified for the Tour Championship by placing in the top 30 at the end of the 2021–2022 season.
Sahith has scoliosis, an abnormal lateral curvature of the spine, which causes what he called “a pretty big bend to the right.”
For treatment, he sees a chiropractor regularly, who is specialized in scoliosis.
Even though the condition doesn’t cause him any pain, for now, Sahith said he “can’t move in certain ways” — hence his unorthodox swing.
