This particular campaign strategy was featured in George Magazine, solidifying Schmidt’s validity as a political strategist and analyst.

He also strategized for Tim Leslie’s campaign in 1998 but was not able to gain Leslie the seat in the senate that he was running for.

In 2001, Schmidt went on to work as a specialist in the National Republican Congressional Committee. He soon secured a promotion as Communications director by late 2002.

During Bush’s administration in 2004, he was employed as the Deputy Assistant to the President and the Counselor to Vice President Dick Cheney.

He continued to fill various other strategic roles throughout Bush’s administration, handling day-to-day political affairs as needed.
