In 2013, Tariq released Dark Medicine, a horror film that follows a group of college students who break into an abandoned school to explore it.
On June 26, 2014, Tariq released the first film in the Hidden Colors series titled – ”The Rules of Racism.” It focuses on the topic of race within the US.
”I would like to see black people get serious about economic black empowerment,” Nasheed told HuffPost about the effects of releasing this documentary. He added: ”That’s the most important thing. We need economic empowerment, which is going to translate to black empowerment.”
In 2017, Tariq released ”1804: The Hidden History of Haiti,” a documentary that explores the four principal players who were instrumental in Haiti’s independence – Jean-Jacques Dessalines, Toussaint Louvature, Dutty Bookman, and Makandal.
Mink Slide
He is the lead singer of the R&B musical group Mink Slide. In 2018, his band released an album called Egyptian Musk. The album debuted at number 12 on the Billboard R&B Albums charts.
In August 2019, he released Hidden Colors 5: The Art of Black Warfare. Later that month, Tariq was banned from entering the UK.
”I just found out the UK government has banned me from coming to the UK to show #HiddenColors5,” Tariq wrote on Twitter. He continued: ”They are denying me to even enter the UK. I called the UK government to find out why and the officials said: ‘I’m not conducive to the good of the public’ of the UK.”
”I have been calling the UK Home Office all week, and they are deliberately being vague and evasive about telling me the specific reason for the ban,” Nasheed told Independent. He went on to say: ”The ban is definitely because of the release of my new film Hidden Colors 5.”
A petition was started on Change.org, so the UK Government lift the ban on Nasheed from entering the country.
10,000 signatures from UK citizens were required to secure a debate in Parliament. However, only 428 people have signed the petition.
In 2020, Mink Slide released the album ”Crushed Velvet.”
In 2021, Nasheed released the documentary film ”Buck Breaking.”
In 2023, he opened the Hidden History Museum in LA.
