What religion is Jah from The Family Chantel?

What religion is Jah from TLC’s The Family Chantel?

Introduction

The TLC network was onto a hit when 90 Day Fiancé made its series debut in January 2014.

At the time of writing, it had been running for 9 consecutive seasons and has spawned a massive eighteen spinoff shows.

The first spinoff show that followed one specific couple was The Family Chantel—a show that followed the marriage of Chantel Everett and her husband, Pedro Jimeno.

Pedro and Chantel were married in March 2016 in a small ceremony in Georgia, before heading to the Dominican Republic for a larger wedding celebration with the groom’s extended family and friends.

While the marriage would eventually grind to a halt when Pedro filed for divorce in May 2022, some good did come from their marriage and the subsequent reality show that showcased it.

Like getting to meet Winter and Jah.

One of the regular cast members of The Family Chantel, Jah, is married to Chantel’s sister, Winter.

The villain to Winter’s heroine, he has two children, one of whom he hid from his wife for the first 6 years of their relationship.

While there have been lots of ups and downs to Jah and Winter’s marriage, they’ve been together for more than 7 years and provided countless hours of entertainment on the show.

What religion is Jah from The Family Chantel?

One thing fans are all curious about, though, is Jah’s religion.

A quick Google search of the question ‘What religion is Jah from The Family Chantel?’ shows that he follows the Nazarene faith.

So, what is it?

And did Winter convert to Jah’s religion in the end? Let’s find out.

What is the Church of the Nazarene?

The Nazarene faith is an evangelical Christian denomination of the Methodist church.

Those who practice the Nazarene religion are known as Nazarenes.

Essentially, the Nazarene church was formed through a series of mergers between churches in the 20th century, and its core values are “Christian, Holiness, Missional.”

According to The Church of the Nazarene manual 2017-2021, the Church does not support polygamy (trust us: this will matter in a few minutes).

The key practice for Nazarenes, according to the church’s 2013 General Assembly, is to “make Christ-like disciples in the nations.”

This is done primarily through worship, adhering to the principles of the Church, evangelism, discipleship, the development of the church, leadership, and compassion.

For a long time, followers of the Church of the Nazarene congregated to worship three times per week—on a Sunday morning, a Sunday night, and again on a Wednesday.

Eventually, this would move to once per week, where they sing hymns, pray, read from Scripture, listen to a sermon, and spend time together as a community.

The church also invites members of its congregation to give testimony—to talk about how they came to join the church, and how it has changed their lives.

Nazarenes have their own ministry to share the word of God, family camps, as well as camps held by the church for kids throughout summer vacation.

People who follow the Nazarene religion are not meant to smoke, do drugs, or consume alcohol.

Extra-marital and pre-marital relationships are forbidden, and divorce is not common within the faith.

Did Winter convert to the Church of Nazarene?

She did.

While Winter and Jah certainly haven’t had it easy throughout their seven years together, Chantel’s younger sister and her boyfriend certainly seemed dedicated to making it work.

The pair met when Winter was still a teenager.

Jah had a daughter from a previous relationship, and despite her family’s misgivings, Winter stepped up to help raise the little girl.

This was only the start of Jah’s problems with the Everett family.

Suspicious from the start, Chantel hired a private investigator to look into Jah’s past.

The PI soon discovered that Jah had another child—a son who he had deliberately kept secret from his girlfriend.

While fans were convinced this big revelation would be a deal breaker for the family-focused Winter, they were wrong.

She stood by her man.

In the second season of The Family Chantel, viewers got to see Jah propose to Winter while the pair were sitting on a sofa in an escape room.

While Jah had to read his proposal poem off his phone, and Winter didn’t have the excited response fans would expect of a marriage proposal after 6 years, she did say yes.

This may have come as a big relief to Jah, who had proposed to his long-time girlfriend once before—only to be turned down.

The newly engaged couple managed to muster up some enthusiasm later in the episode when Winter flashed her ring for the camera, but earlier, she can be seen confessing to the camera that “It’s definitely really hard to move forward with Jah […] looking back at our history.”

In season 3, fans saw Winter convert to the Nazarene faith and begin following what he called a “Biblical” diet.

Both her older sister and her mom, Karen, expressed their concern over the idea.

Are Jah and Winter from The Family Chantel still together?

Following her conversion, Winter shows up at her parents’ home in tears.

She tells Chantel that she sat in her car with all her belongings in a car park, crying, and not wanting to tell their mother.

She finally got up the courage to come to their house.

While the conversation that resulted in the pair’s breakup wasn’t filmed, Winter explains that Jah wanted to discuss polygamy.

Winter responded by saying she didn’t want Jah to have other wives, and he didn’t take it well.

After arguing “for forever,” Jah became angrier and angrier, eventually kicking Winter out of the house.

She packed her things and left, returning to live with her parents.

Initially, Jah tried to reconcile with his fiancée, but it seemed like Winter was finally sticking up for herself.

After she refused to return to the house, he banned her from seeing his daughter, Liani,

Since the pair broke up, Winter appears to have been living her best life—she has started a fitness program, and regularly posts #OOTD looks on Instagram.
