Biography

He was born on November 15, 1969, in Washington, D.C.

In 1987, Rapoport graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School.

In 1992, he graduated from the University of California, Berkeley. ”I worked at the daily paper at UC Berkeley, where I was a sports writer,” he wrote in a Reddit post.

Rapoport added: ”It was a great experience-I reported, wrote and edited copy five days a week.”

He started to work as an assistant for the James Beard Foundation in 1994.

Rapoport joined the New York division of Time Out magazine as a restaurant editor in 1997.

In 2006, Rapoport was a guest in one episode of the reality TV series ”After Hours with Daniel Boulud.”

From 2014 to 2019, Adam appeared several times in the morning television program ”CBS This Morning.”

Bon Appétit

In 2010, he succeeded food journalist Barbara Fairchild as the editor-in-chief of Bon Appétit magazine, a monthly American food and entertainment magazine.

The magazine is owned by Condé Nast Publications, a global mass media company founded in 1909.

Bon Appétit also has a YouTube channel (with over 5.99 million subscribers). On YouTube, Bon Appétit collaborated with many famous YouTubers, including Andrew Rea of Binging with Babish and Sean Evans of Hot Ones.

In 2014, Bon Appétit launched a podcast that featured famous guests such as Mark Bittman,  Gordon Ramsay, and Ina Garten. Rapoport served as the host of the Bon Appétit Foodcast. 

On June 8, 2020, he resigned from his position as Bon Appétit magazine’s top editor after a photo of him resurfaced on social media (originally posted by his wife on Instagram in 2013).

”I am stepping down as editor-in-chief of Bon Appétit to reflect on the work that I need to do as a human being and to allow Bon Appétit to get to a better place,” Adam wrote in an Instagram post.

”We have a zero-tolerance policy toward discrimination and harassment in any forms,” stated Condé Nast’s chief communications officer, Joe Libonati. He continued: ”Consistent with that, we go to great lengths to ensure that employees are paid fairly, in accordance with their roles and experience, across the entire company.”

Amanda Shapiro took on the role of interim editor-in-chief of Bon Appétit.

In August 2020, Bon Appétit hired Dawn Davis as their new editor-in-chief. Dawn Davis was president and publisher of 37 Ink. In addition, Davis also edited a novel by Edward P. Jones that won the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for fiction, titled – ”The Known World.”

Adam Rapoport is married to Simone Shubuck, a self-taught artist and florist who received a BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1993.
