Biography

He was born on October 28, 1985, in Connecticut, USA.

His parents divorced when he was very young.

Anthony studied political science and journalism at Southern Connecticut State University.

In the mid-2000s, he started work as a music director for the Southern Connecticut State University college radio station.

YouTube

On January 21, 2009, Fantano started the YouTube channel theneedledrop. ”I tried doing YouTube in 2009, which I only did as an experiment because my blog and podcast were making much traction at the time,” he said in an interview.

According to the channel description, ”you can expect to see daily reviews on the latest in rock, pop, electronic, metal, hip hop, and experimental music.”

In his videos, he usually talks into a camera about songs and details things he did and didn’t like. ”This whole process has literally been like the act of building a community around something before which there was no community around,” said Fantano for Blog Patreon.

Cal Chuchesta, his alter ego, appeared in some of his reviews. Chuchesta represents everything Anthony is not. In 2015, he released a parody album called The New CALassic under this persona. ”I would love for Cal to be in a made-for-TV Christmas movie called Cal Saves Christmas: The Origins of Chuchesta and The Hunt for The Golden Sweater,” Anthony said.

The Needle Drop’s most popular videos take on famous artists, like Tyler, the Creator, Kendrick Lamar, Chance the Rapper, Eminem, Frank Ocean, and Kanye West.

In 2011, his website won the ”O Music Awards” in the “Beyond the Blog” category. In that year, Anthony also won the On The Rise contest hosted by YouTube.

In 2016, he created another YouTube channel called ”thatistheplan.” It was dedicated to internet culture and all things memes. In 2017, Fantano deleted all the videos from this channel following a now-deleted article by The Fader as well as constant demonetization.

On May 18, 2017, he started the channel ”Fantano.” On this channel, Anthony uploads reactions to music news and new tracks and albums.
