She is best known for her portrayal of Dr Eleanor O’Hara in Nurse Jackie and starred in The King’s Speech (2010).

She is also part of the cast of the Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, which premiered in 2022.

The Origin Story

Emily ‘Eve’ Best was born in Ladbroke Grove, London, on 31 July 1971.

She is the daughter of an actress and journalist and was encouraged by her parents to get into acting from a young age.

Best’s early performances came with the W11 children’s opera company, appearing in multiple shows from the age of nine.

She graduated from Wycombe Abbey Girls’ School before studying English at Lincoln College, Oxford.

While studying at Oxford, Best performed in multiple Oxford University Dramatic Society productions, as well as the Edinburgh festival. 

Although born Emily Best, she adopted her grandmother’s name on stage because there was already an Emily Best registered with the British Actors’ Equity Association.

As such, she’s been known as Eve Best throughout her career.

While it was rumored that Eve Best was dating fellow British actor Tom Batemen for a period around 2010, it’s not clear if she is currently in a relationship with anyone.

Eve Best is a British actress who has accumulated most of her net worth thanks to the prominent roles that she has held in film and TV to date.

She started her career in 1995 on the stage, playing Beatrice in a production of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing at London’s Southwark Playhouse. 

She followed it up a year later with an appearance in Sisters, Brothers, at the Gate Theatre in London, before starring as Annabella in ‘Tis Pity She’s a Whore at the Young Vic in 1999.

For her role as Annabella, Best won The Milton Shulman Award for Outstanding Newcomer, as well as the Jack Tinker Award for Most Promising Newcomer. 

Best’s impressive early performances on stage captured the attention of casting directors, landing her first appearance on TV in 2000.

She appeared in the long-running British shows The Bill and Casualty in the same year before portraying Ellen McGilvray in The Infine Worlds of H.G. Wells in 2001.

A year later, she played Eleanor Shackleton in the 2002 TV movie Shackleton, which tells the true story of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s 1914 Antarctic expedition on Endurance.

The film was broadcast in two parts on Channel 4 in the UK and received critical acclaim before being shown on the American network A&E. 

Following the success of Shackleton, Best landed multiple high-profile roles on TV, and her subsequent credits include Waking the Dead, Prime Suspect: The Final Act, and The Inspector Lynley Mysteries.

She also played Sarah Cartwright for six episodes in the 2006 series Vital Signs, quickly followed by Dr Eleanor O’Hara for five seasons in Nurse Jackie, from 2009-2013. 

In an Associated Press interview, Best spoke of her role in Nurse Jackie and said:

“It’s such a very complicated and difficult relationship, and how to be a friend in the best possible way without actually encouraging it (behavior), without interfering or without exonerating what they do or approving of it either, it’s a real knife-edge.”

As her career in TV was taking off, Best continued performing on stage, winning the 2006 Olivier Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of the titular character in Hedda Gabler.

While all of her theatrical roles had seen her perform in London’s West End to date, she made her Broadway bow in 2007, appearing in A Moon for the Misbegotten, winning a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Play.

She landed one of the biggest roles of her career when she was cast as Wallis Simpson in the 2010 British movie, The King’s Speech.

Starring Colin Firth as the future King George VI, the moving period drama was critically acclaimed upon release, winning multiple awards and nominations at the 83rd Academy Awards.

She appeared in two more feature films after The King’s Speech Someone You Love and A Woman of No Importance.

But it has been her roles on TV and stage that she is best known for, helping to shape her career to date. 

In 2022, Best was cast as Rhaenys Velaryon in the first season of the Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon.
