Morfydd Clark was born on March 17, 1989, in Sweden, before moving to Penarth, Wales, when she was two years old.

Morfydd’s parents are a mixed bag—her mom is from North Wales, and her dad is Northern Irish Glaswegian, meaning he has roots in both Ireland and Glasgow, Scotland.

Sister

Morfydd and her sister, Siwan Clark, attended a full-immersion Welsh school from the time Morfydd was 7 years old, and the sibling duo both speak fluent Welsh and English—with a little Swedish thrown in for good measure.

School was difficult for Morfydd.

She was diagnosed with ADHD in high school, and then with dyslexia.

While this explained why she had struggled to learn from books—although she was very clever when it came to performance art and manual tasks—Morfydd felt it was too late.

She dropped out of school at age 16, found a job, and started looking for roles on stage.

At 19 years old, Morfydd was given a role in a production of According to Brian Haw at the British Youth Music Theatre.

She followed the role up with another performance at the National Youth Theatre of Wales and was accepted into a training program at the prestigious Drama Centre London.

It was during her time at the Drama Centre London that she scored a starring role in Blodeuwedd, a play written by Saunders Lewis.

It was her final term at the Drama Centre. Morfydd left to take on the role—and the rest, as they say, is history.

Big Things

After nailing her part in Blodeuwedd with the Welsh Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru—located at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David—Morfydd was hooked.

She went on to appear in Violence and Son, Romeo and Juliet—where she played a convincing Juliet—and Dangerous Liaisons.

By late 2017, she had also racked up roles as Cordelia in King Lear, a lead in Interlude in Prague and The Man Who Invented Christmas, and The Call Up.

The best was well and truly yet to come, with the 2020 confirmation that Morfydd had locked in the role of a young Galadriel in Amazon Prime’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

2020 was a good year for the young Welsh starlet—she was nominated for a Best Actress award at the British Independent Film Awards.

In 2021, she was nominated for the BAFTA Rising Star Award.

In an interview following the 2022 launch of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Morfydd admitted that going from small stage to millions of television screens around the world was a little daunting.

“My family are not pessimistic, but […] we thought it would be great if I could do a play in Cardiff. This stuff feels surreal.”

Clark’s character is a younger version of the role portrayed by Cate Blanchett in the iconic movie saga.

Morfydd, accompanied by an ensemble cast that includes Robert Aramayo, Ismael Cruz, and Charlie Vickers, spent time filming in New Zealand before finalizing the show in the UK.
