She was born on March 24, 1982, in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.
Nivea and her two older sisters grew up in Savannah. She had a troubled childhood due to the use of drugs by her parents.
In her words:
“I come from an addicted family, both of my parents were on crack. My mom got off and my dad struggled over the years, and recently, over the past year, went to rehab, but that was the last 30 years of my life.”
Hamilton went on to say:
“The struggle is real. I was real caught up with the cocaine situation. It was pretty bad. I pulled myself up out of it though.”
In 2001, she debuted in the music industry on Mystikal’s #1 hit titled – “Danger (Been So Long).”

In 2011, Hamilton was arrested on DUI charges. DUI is an abbreviation for ”driving under the influence” – with drugs on alcohol.
According to law enforcement sources, Hamilton was on the road around 1:30 AM when she plowed her car right into a tree that had fallen into the road during a recent storm. She told police she only had three drinks earlier in the evening.
During an interview, Hamilton talked about her history with drugs:
“I’m a be honest. I did everything late. I didn’t smoke weed until 2010 after I stopped breastfeeding my youngest son.”

”The pill thing I can’t do. I drink though. I had to stop that. Brown liquor — I’m a whiskey girl — has sugar in it and it makes you freakin’ fatter. I had to stop that. But yeah, I like to drink.”
In 2012, Hamilton announced work on her 4th studio album, named – “Purple Heart” that was set for a May release. In 2013, Nivea renamed the album – ”Nivea Revealed.”
In November 2013, Hamilton released a new single “Loud Blunt” on digital services.
In 2018, Nivea announced she was working with Wash House Entertainment. Later that year, Hamilton released a single entitled – “Circles.”

In 2004, Nivea got married to Terius Nash a.k.a The-Dream.
The-Dream is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer. His co-writing credits include songs with:

After their divorce, Hamilton declared that The-Dream wanted the divorce, not her. In her words:
“I’m lying, it’s not. We’re supposed to say that, but it’s not true. It wasn’t no mutual agreement, he wanted to do it, I didn’t, but it’s done. I’m dealing with it.”
The-Dream said in an interview:
