Peedi Crakk Net Worth 2024

Peedi Crakk Net Worth – $3 million

Introduction

True ’90s and 2000s hip-hop fans know the name Peedi Crakk.

Part of the original Rap Rat Pack, he was running with the biggest names in the rap industry.

From Jay Z to Dame Dash—both major label producers wanted to sign him—to Memphis Bleek and South Philly’s Beanie Sigel, Peedi Crakk had the hip-hop world at his feet.

But thanks to poor timing, missed opportunities, and some behavior that landed the young Puerto Rican lyricist in hot water with the hip hop industry and with the police, Peedi Crakk’s star never rose as far as it could have.

Here’s what we know about his career and his life so far.

Pedro Louis Zayas—who is better known as Peedi Peedi or Peedi Crakk—was born on September 25, 1977, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Zayas is Puerto Rican, and settled with his family in North Philly for much of his childhood and adult life.

Zayas welcomed his first son into the world in 2001, when he was just 24 years old.

Another son arrived in 2003, followed by two more: one in 2007 and one in 2009.

In an interview, Zayas said he loves the honest things kids say. “He’s so honest,” Peedi said about his eldest son, “That’s one of the things I love.”

Amongst the other things the Puerto Rican lyricist loves is the writing process.

As anyone with a passion can attest, Zayas often gets wrapped up in the process and doesn’t realize how much time has passed.

“Zoning with a pen and a pad—I dig that, that’s me.”

In 2010, Peedi Crakk landed himself in prison with a felony rap.

When he was released that same year, he addressed a rumor that he had joined iconic rap group The Roots.

He set the record straight, saying that the Roots crew were like family to him, and that the projects they’d worked on had all come together organically.

Opportunities on the Doorstep

The first opportunity Zayas had to get into the music industry came almost by accident.

Zayas had been friends with a guy named Freeway right through high school, and Freeway had just been signed to Roc-A-Fella Records.

The year was 2001, and Freeway had come up with Beanie Sigel and the State Property label crew.

He got Zayas in the door, and by 2002, the young Puerto Rican was dropping his first single: One for Peedi Crakk. The song, which was produced by Megahertz, made the R&B / Hip Hop Top 40, and kickstarted a stellar musical period for the rapper.

Following on from that single, Zayas featured on Jay-Z’s The Blueprint and Freeway’s Philadelphia Freeway.

He was catching major attention in the music industry, especially on the East Coast, and he began releasing mixtapes as he waited out his opportunity to drop an album.

Following the 2005 split of Roc-A-Fella Records—with Jay-Z remaining at Def Jam and Dame Dash heading to Universal Records—and the dissolution of State Property, Crakk was temporarily a free agent.

Damon Dash offered the up and comer a $10,000 signing bonus, which Zayas refused—going on to sign with Jay-Z at his newly formed Roc-Nation.

The thing was, Roc-Nation Records’ timing and Peedi Crakk’s timing were never on the same wavelength after that.

Crakk explained in an interview that when he was ready to start his album, it wasn’t the right time for the label—and when the label was ready, Peedi Crakk was too busy messing around.

This caused tensions at the time, and eventually, Zayas said his calls stopped being answered, things started slowing down, and he knew what was going on. In 2008, Peedi Crakk was released from his contract.

At the time, music mogul Jay-Z said:

“It’s difficult, everybody got a chance to sit at the table and make something. So whether you parlay that into something or let it go away, you know, that’s pretty much on you.”

In an interview years later, Zayas was man enough to admit that he had wasted a good opportunity, and said that his crew had been given “the shot of a lifetime” by Jay-Z.

Zayas signed with digital label Amalgam Digital in 2008, and began work on his first album all over again.

He also collaborated with iconic drummer Questlove and lyricist Black Thought of the Roots—although he never officially joined the famous band.

There were rumors that Peedi planned to release an album called Camel Face Hunting Season—a dig at Roc-Nation and Jay-Z—but Zayas said there was never an album by that name, and that it was all a joke that he “co-signed” because he was mad.
