Biography
He was born on August 18, 1936, in Santa Monica, California, as Charles Robert Redford Jr, to Charles Robert Redford Sr. and Martha Woodruff Redford (née Hart).
Redford inherited an interest in spiritual matters from his mother.
In 1954, he graduated from Van Nuys High School.
He won a baseball scholarship to the University of Colorado.
During college, he began drinking heavily. At some point, Redford lost his scholarship and was kicked out of school.
“I lost my scholarship pretty quick after I discovered drinking,” Redford said in 1990 in an interview.
Later, Robert worked as an oil worker and traveled to Europe, living in Italy, Spain, and France.

She is an American historian and activist who co-founded Consumer Action Now.
“I met him in California, where we happened to live in the same apartment building,” Lola Van Wagenen revealed in an interview. “He was an unknown, struggling young visual artist then.”
The pair married in a Mormon ceremony, which took place at her grandmother’s home.
