Scott Cawthon is an American video game developer, designer, and author who has a net worth of $50 million. He is best known for his Five Nights at Freddy’s series.

Cawthon created several animated movies, such as The Christmas Journey, The Pilgrim’s Progress, and Noah’s Ark.

Scott was born on July 26, 1971, in Houston, Texas, USA.

Cawthon developed his first game (Doofas) when he was a child. Scott said in an interview:

”My mom bought me a program called Klik & Play when I was 13 and I’ve been making games ever since.”

In 2007, he uploaded the first part of an eight-part series (The Pilgrim’s Progress) on his YouTube channel. Currently, the channel has over 106 million views and more than 1.95 million subscribers.

In 2013, Scott published a game titled – ”Chipper & Sons Lumber Co.” When the game came out, many players complained about the characters in the game looking like scary animatronic dolls. The poor reception of ”Chipper & Sons Lumber Co.” sent Cawthon into depression.

Five Nights at Freddy’s

After he recovered from depression, Cawthon began work on Five Nights at Freddy’s. He said:

”I felt drawn back to games again, but not Christian games anymore.”

The first Five Nights at Freddy’s game was released on August 8, 2014.

The series is centered on a pastiche of pizza restaurants such as Showbiz Pizza Place and Chuck E. Cheese. The main characters in the series are usually security guards working at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza.

The series was a breakout success both on mobile and on PC. Scott used the script-free programming tool Clickteam Fusion 2.5 to create the Five Nights at Freddy’s games.

After the release of Five Nights At Freddy’s 4, Scott wrote a lengthy post to the FNAF 4 Steam forums. He wrote:

”Did you know that last year I was working at Dollar General? I worked as a cashier.”

Your personal story makes me so sad. I have been teaching 2nd-3rd grades for about 10 years now and I had to have a 2nd grade student expelled because he was obsessed with FNAF. He was fascinated with killing and the horror. He was 7. SEVEN! I know you are not responsible for who buys your books or watching the videos, plays the games, etc., but do you let your own kids read your books, play the games or watch the videos? I pray that you still have faith in the Lord and I will also pray that maybe one day, you will give Christian games and books another try. We have too much gore and death on the nightly basis via News.

Sincerely, Carol Dunklau
