Taylor went to Temecula Valley High School prior to enrolling at California Polytechnic State University. Her time there was short-lived because she made the switch to a community college located in San Diego.
During this time in her life, Tomlinson knew her dream was to pursue a career in standup comedy, so she chose to attend a college that had comedy clubs nearby so she could perform.
Her time at college was also short-lived because she made yet another switch, this time to California State University San Marcos. She dropped out not too long after enrolling because she finally realized that postsecondary education was merely a distraction from her goal of becoming a comedian.

Her interest in this rather unconventional career choice was sparked by her father.
When she was a teenager, her father met a woman at their local church who was attending standup comedy classes. He became interested himself, so he enrolled and brought young Tomlinson along to help him write jokes.
As it turns out, her father’s hobby turned into a budding and lucrative career for his daughter.
The Road To Fame
Tomlinson was 16 years old when she began to take comedy somewhat seriously.
She started writing her own jokes and would perform them regularly at her church basement, and coffee shops, and she was even employed as a comedian on cruise ships, which lasted 8 weeks.
By the age of 20, Taylor was hired to perform at corporate events and local colleges. This was when her career went from amateur to full-time professional.

While it was evident that she was a natural talent, she is also a natural introvert, so she struggled to get on stage and perform until she learned how to deal with her shyness.
Tomlinson went into detail about her struggles during a podcast interview with Jay Shetty.
She said:
“I was terrified of performing when I first started doing standup. I mean, I felt sick, like physically sick, for days before I went on stage.”
When asked how she pushed through it, Tomlinson went on to explain, “I just loved it so much that I just wanted to do it more than I was scared to do it, which is sort of how you have to be if you’re somebody who not naturally extroverted or what have you.”
Despite her struggles, all her hard work quickly started to pay off.
In 2015, she landed a place as one of the top 10 finalists on the ninth season of NBC’s Last Comic Standing.
Tomlinson performed at the 2019 Just for Laughs Festival and killed her performance. Her performance sent shockwaves throughout the comedy community, and she earned the name “Top 10 Comics to Watch” by Variety.
By this time in her life, one of her greatest accomplishments was receiving an invite to The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien.

Taylor was contacted by Netflix to film her own standup special.
As any comedian can attest to, getting your own standup special is the epitome of ultimate success in that space. So, of course, she accepted.
“Taylor Tomlinson: Quarter-Life Crisis” was filmed and went live that same year.
That special put her name on the map, and she began to line up extremely high-paying gigs.
She’s been featured on some of YouTube’s biggest podcast channels, including Whitney Cummings, Sophia Bush, and Jay Shetty.

Tomlinson had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder around the same time, so she took this angle with her special.
Taylor also talked about the impact her mom’s death had on her life.
To her surprise, she had incredible feedback from the audience, and so many people told her they can personally relate to her struggles.
Originally, she wasn’t going to incorporate her struggles with mental health into her specials. When she tested it out in a few smaller shows, the feedback from her fans was overwhelmingly positive. Many of them thanked her for encouraging them to return to therapy for their struggles.
As such, she decided that mental health would be the theme of her special.

In 2020, Taylor Tomlinson started dating Sam Morril, a stand-up comedian who has released three comedy specials – Up On the Roof, I Got This, and Positive Influence.
